Thoughts on Paradox's upcoming game Stellaris
i like it. it looks cosy.
Cant wait, preordered last week.
I'm excited. I have a group of bros that I play CK2/EU4/Vicky2/HOI3 with.
I'm excited for this and HOI4.
The dev team said that this game is more 4x and less grand strategy, but they claim that the grand strategy roots are still there. It just doesn't come into play as much until late game.
Ultimately, I'm pretty hyped for it, but I do recognize that there's a possibility that it could be a failure. Paradox has been pretty good about supporting their games post launch to revamp mechanics that don't work, so even if this isn't perfect at launch, I expect it'll get better over time.
A link to a video, or the game site, or literally anything, would have been cool.
considering Paradox's record so far it'll need several patches before it's playable and a couple of major DLCs before it has any depth in mechanics

Paradox did a stream of the game
>>336135082
Is this going to be one of those nerd strategy games with lots of stats?
>>336137905
It's a paradox game, what do you think?
>>336137797
Sadly this.
I own every paradox game and I learned my lesson. Maybe they will be different this time, but am not holding my breath.
Gonna wait for a couple of DLCs and an expansion or two.
HOI4 will be better
Ill buy it if they release a season pass..

Am I the only one who thinks that avatar looks like a trashbag filled with dicks?
>>336137851
33:00 minute mark
Planets to close to star.
Not realistic
SHit game
>>336138398
How exactly are Paradox games broken at launch?
EU4 was fine for me. The only game I remember being broken was Vicky 2.
>>336139381
They release a bare bones game that gets boring quick without the DLC
>>336139686
sounds like bethesda
Have no great hopes.
It will be full PC Swedish sucking cock game.
>>336135082
>Paradox
might be fun, after 2-3 patches and an expansion pack.
>>336140619
Bethesda doesn't even bother trying to make mechanics compelling no matter how many expansions they push out
>strategy games
>fun
>>336140619
Bethesda games are critically broken on launch and are never fixed.
what's a game I can play to prep myself for this game? I need to play something for a week.
Why would you want a Stellaris when MoO3 is coming out?
>>336135082
Pre-ordered, I'm super hyped it looks great.
>>336142239
Master of Orion(new ones or better original one)
Master of Orion 2
Swords in the Stars(the 1st, 2nd is trash)
Stars in Shadows
Endless Space
Distant Stars
>>336142283
Because MoO 3 is shit.
Unless you think about the New MoO.
Which is also shit.
Can't wait for it, slightly disappointed with the lack of espionage
Looks great, I've been dreaming of a slick, well produced sci-fi grand strategy game for a while. There have been a few contenders, like Distant Worlds, but they've never quite had the appeal of Paradox produced titles.
Looks like a typical Paradox game, good ideas ruined by barebones execution.
Also it's a well known fact that Paradox shills their games to an absurd degree on 4chan.
>>336142857
>appeal of Paradox produced titles
Paradox can rule only because even if their games are shit they have no real rivals. In short Paradox is real example why monopoly is bad for customer.
Not mention their greedy DLC policy.
>>336135082
Looks like fun
One of the few games I'm actually looking forward to.
I don't know why, but I always feel like I have the most fun with paradox games before I learn how to play them.
They're still fun after that, but those first hours when you figure out new shit all the time are the best.
Looks fun, but i will never buy a Paradox grand strategy game ever again.
Gonna pirate it as soon as it comes out.
>>336143240
This.
>>336142857
>but they've never quite had the appeal of Paradox produced titles.
Victoria 2 was released seven years ago, anon.
>>336143828
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>336139686
Yeah I fucking disagree. The only substantial content added to the game for at least a year was Art of War, which was great. Everything prior to that was just small additions. I logged over a thousand hours by the time art of war came out. Everything after that is shit.
>>336143828
Even new Paradox titles can be fun when you mod the shit out of them.
>>336142954
I thought it's more known fact that /gsg/ is full of faggots whining about everything Paradox does yet they still mainly play Paradox games.
Althought I have to agree how full jewmode Paradox is with their DLCs.
>>336143997
Nice.
BTW Do Orks in Fantasy Warhammer have Women?
>>336144118
Nope. I can't remember how they breed, might just spores like 40k Orks. But there's no Orc women.
>>336143997
Ooo what mod is this?
>>336144360
Geheimnisnacht, there's a subforum on the paradox forums about it.
>>336144118
I saw an original GW ork woman miniature but I think they have retconned them
>>336137851
wait is this gonna be like Space Empires?
'cause I friggin loved Space Empires growing up
>>336137851

I preordered Stellaris because it reminds me of Deadlock
>>336143997

>>336145916

>>336140619
Nah, Paradox fix their games with DLCs, Bethesda counts on the community to fix their game with mods.
They even want to get paid for it.
>>336146510
Dwarves are very many people anon, even their women.Especially their women
>>336135082
its a nice concepts and i like some of what they did but the tweening animation on the characters when your in a dialog looks lazy
endless space 2 has a better look to everything more polished and cool
the rts combat aslo isnt a selling point for me since rts games tend to be about who clicks and drags the fastest
i might pick it up but i doubt i will play it much
>>336135082
Can't wait to get my hands on it desu
>>336149002
to be clear the cat people just have double jointed necks and their head swings backwards when they talk
>>336143997
One of my favorite CK2 mods wasthe one where you can play as a succubus and forcefully seduce rules to impregnate yourself with bastard children that have valuable claims.
>>336142574
>SotS2
God, what a fucking disappointment. I loved SotS1, and I'm even playing a campaign now to bide time while I wait for this. SotS2 angered me more about how they flat out lied to the community about the launch. The trust in the developer was lost and even when they "relaunched" as a finished (really this time guys!) game, I still had such a bad taste in my mouth that I couldn't really get into it.
My body is ready
>>336149897
I bet my ass that purging would make everyone unhappy and be not viable tactic.
>>336149002
I wouldn't worry about the RTS aspect of it. The Paradox GS games are all RTS, but the combat itself is more "These units have engaged in combat" and you wait for it to resolve itself. Generally the only intervention you can do mid battle is to order a retreat.
Outside of that, you can pause it whenever you want, even in multiplayer (Though your mileage will vary depending on who you're playing with. Some people are dicks about pausing).
>>336150098
Hope its like distant worlds, pisses off the empires of the species, but no one else gives a fuck.
>>336149635
Mecron didndu nuffin killed franchise by firing the only guy who had skills in the middle of development.
But what you expect for a bunch of fluff writers who have no real skills.
The SotS one wasn't actually that good game but was good enough also lack any sort of alternative. The tactical combat was clunky at best and AI were brain dead but it has its own charm.
But you are right. Their lies hurt them more than failed launch.
>>336150098
>implying that any number of aliens that could overpower the collective will of mankind
>>336144445
>Needs Horse Lords.
haha gay
>>336150736
Just pirate that shit nigga.
>>336150293
Probably it cause unhappiness in your empire with various factions popping and demanding independence or rebelling and all neighbour uniting and invading your sorry ass.
>>336150571
I just can't believe they had the balls to say that they "accidentally" uploaded a beta build to Steam, and that the real finished version would be up and running in a few hours.
Then it became apparent that it WAS the launch release, and they just came up with that bullshit to buy them time to get a patch out, as if they could wrap up development in another 48 hours. For fucks sake, half the game's textures were just boxes that literally said "Placeholder texture" on them.
I'm still mad about it.
>>336135082

>>336151001

>>336150642
if only Stalin wouldn't be murdered by traitors Jews and corrupted Party weren't shit are ruling we could see the true power of Space Commies.
>>336149002
>Endless Space 2
Is there much info out about that yet? Loved the first one, but it seems the only thing about the second they've revealed is the UI, which their pimping really hard, and little about the gameplay.
>>336151001
On one hand I want to try that game but on the other hand the art style and font makes it look like some kind of fucking Reader Rabbit spinoff.
>>336151134
>fucking Trekkie and proud of it
>>336137530
The GS stuff starts to shine later in the game like one you join or establish a federation and all the political power plays begin.
>>336142283
MoO3 is pretty underwhelming. They shot for too much nostalgia bait and forgot to actually bring something new to the table. I can just play MoO2 again and avoid paying for what is mostly a pricey reskin.
I don't think its a bad game at all but I wasn't particularly impressed either.
>>336143082
EUIV, CK2, HOI3, and Vicky2 are all excellent games, fuck off
>>336151310
Stars in Shadows
Currently in development. Its similar to Master of Orion 2 but with less planetary management(less city building) but still have ship design and tactical combat. Can post more pics if you want.
>>336151763
>less planetary management(less city building)
So with no city building at all then, because MoO2's city building was ridiculously simple.
>>336151030
They were shit at lying and making games on their own.
As their earlier and later games showed.
Still they struck gold with SotS one. Instead of just following up they jump into shit.
Screw them. I hope the whole studio burns.
pls buy stellaris
>There are people out there that don't name their first cruiser 'Thunderchild'
>>336151962
It was simple but time consuming with more than few colonies.
here you have few complex(industrial, trade, farming, science, mining) and limited slots on planet to build them. Nothing great but it work. You still can specialize planets and population matters.
>>336151496
Its has its charm. The best looking ships are Snake ones. Gameplay is similar to MoO 2(but simplified)although right now game lack many components. For example no diplomacy right now. Weapon balance is not existed.
>>336153025
>It was simple but time consuming with more than few colonies.
I am going to have to disagree, the production cue in MoO2 was insanely usefully for long build orders.
>>336151578
Vicky is good buts that is all.
Their games are good at being autism simulator but not as a historic simulator.
Cuck Kings 2 is pure fun if you have no idea how things work or have not any knowledge about feudal system. if you have its pure suffering.
HOI just suck and is at best as ping pong simulator.
EU is just blobing game with mana.
>>336153663
>HOI just suck
Kill yourself
>>336153545
Sure but you need to give colony a production base for that or it take ages(unless you buy buildings but at then you need to do it one at time).
If you have more colonies and more than few production buildings(or other necessary building for colony) it was pain in the ass.
It sound like I don't like MoO 2 but I really like it. One of the best 4x. Or I thought.Until I tried first MoO and this is the best 4x game ever. Much better than 2nd or the new one.
>>336153793
Its true. Sad but true.
The combat is just terrible. I blame province system for that but still. Not even mention supply mechanic.
Any other space games worth looking for?
Guys?
>>336154115
>settle new colony
>que automated factory
>buy it to instant build it
>que hydroponic farm
>que some other shit
>que robotic factory
Easy
Playing with automated factories and robotic factories is a must anon.

>>336145916
Muh. Fuggin. Niggaboi.
>>336135082
Looks a little basic at start. Missing things that even MoO2 started with. The lack of espionage feels the most glaring gap in the game currently, information gathering on other empires is extremely simplistic. Combat also looks super simplistic, basically have the higher number and roll into an enemy fleet until it vanishes.
The game does look like it has some stuff going on in population and faction managment, and in the streams they are cleaning up and improving the game pretty fast. I'm not going to pre-order, but I'll be curious to see what it has to offer at release.
>>336154785
>not naming Sojus
>>336155731
While I intend to get it at launch, I think it's fair to give it some time for the dust to settle. The thing with Paradox GS games is that they don't really know how players will use the systems until the masses start playing, so there are generally a lot of things that work really well in their internal testing, but then tend to fall short when "the average player" gets in the game.
>>336155731
Something like this.
it have nice feeling and I am really starved for space 4x or decent gsg but not gonna touch this right now. Unless I get it for free.
>>336156495
>Not naming your first Main Battle Ship a Josef Stalin.
>>336155731
I'm going to pre-order, this is exactly my type of game. I've consumed all the information I can possibly find on it and i'm completely sold.
That said I totally agree, the lack of espionage seems like an entire section of the game that should be there isn't. If they produce a quality expansion that adds it in later, I won't mind too much though. The only thing that will make me annoyed is if they go full jew with shit DLC like some of their other big games. If they do i'll pirate it desu. But I don't think i'll regret giving them the money for the base game.
All the devs look and sound like total retards

>>336160340
It's Paradox, so don't get too overhyped. Expect a lot of DLC.

>>336160780
Better have a new hobby lined up.
>>336161918
I honestly prefer Paradox games earlier in their life. Their expansions usually end up introducing power creep or diluting the experience.
>>336160780
Their games go on sale enough to where their DLC model doesn't really bother me. Stack GMG coupons on top of it and you end up paying next to nothing.
>>336154732
Endless Space 2. Looks like it will have similar influence, alien-pop, and ethos mechanics.
>>336162534
Yeah, I'm just letting him know it'll be quite the unpleasant surprise if he's been absent from video gaming since 2007 and he's expecting this to be the one that gets him back.
>>336135082
It will be okay and people will praise it a lot, but overall, it won't be as good as older games of the same genre.
>>336163926
The dev steams of the game look pretty damn promising. He might not be as disappointed as you think.
The only thing I'm worried about is it being a technical shitpille which given their track record with releases is a legitimate concern. Their builld from their dev stream seemed pretty stable though, so I'm not too concerned.
First run im making the imperium of man.
Its pretty generic but at least all xeno scum will be dedded.
After that probably an multi race collective
>>336164991
Apparently there are endgame cataclysms similar to how the golden horde or sunset invasion from CK2 works except with a scifi twist. One of them is basically an Eye of Terror opening in the galaxy.
>>336165882
I think so far it's:
>extradimensional invasion
>extragalactic invasion
>AI Rebellion
>A Fallen Empire becoming not-so fallen
not sure if there are any others.
