Five years from now you will be saying the same thing about the 4DS or whatever, but the 3DS will be on your list. The 3DS's successes are just being masked right now by Nintendo's other failures on the Wii U. If you look at things objectively, the 3DS is easily in the top two handhelds of all time.

As a Pokemon fan, this is not true. I bought a 3DS for Pokemon, sure enough, but the 6th gen games have been the biggest disappointments since Diamond and Pearl. What kept my 3DS from gathering dust since beating Alpha Sapphire were Bravely Default, Xenoblade, FE: Fates, the N64 Zeldas, Sm4sh, and Zelda ALBW. My love for these series has grown while my love for Pokemon has withered, but I'd still say the 3DS is a great system.

If it's objectively superior, you should be able to outline objective criteria as to why.
But in reality, people base the quality of any system more on their subjective opinion of its native library than any other factor.
Unless the 3DS kicks into serious fucking overdrive for releases in its last few years, then no, I won't be counting it in the top handhelds with the GBA, PSP, GB and DS.
3DS has been out for 5 years, and has less games I want in 5 years than any of those had in 2.
It's been dry lately. Only thing I'm looking forward to is the new Kirby and SMT Final.

Anyway, yeah - this is just for DS games. I've got a spare 4GB microSD from when I first got my N3DS (it has a 64GB microSD in it now, filled with 3DS vidya) and I would like the option to play some DS games on it.
Also I'm kinda salty that my NA copy of Solatorobo won't FUCKING work on my nip N3DS so I was planning on backing up my save with my Action Replay DSi and just playing it on a flash cart.

Not really, it's still updated and if it is somehow ever blocked they'll release a fix. If you have CFW on your 3DS you can also patch out any kind of "ban" list for flashcarts.
It has Pokémon. Without it, it'd probably be a dead system.
