So, i bought this game but after reaching lvl 20 as a gladiator, i just can't stop being bothered by the fucking slow ass combat and how dead the maps/areas are + invisible walls.
Does it get better after level 30? Should i try to run a healer or DPS? I kinda don't want to be a DPS because people said that it takes fucking forever to do dungeons/quests.

My first time playing this I ran with a gladiator. Was the most boring thing in my life. A year later gave it another go with a healer. Had fun. Lots of fun. The invisible walls are anoying, but you get used to it.
When I first played last Feb I knew from the start I wanted to heal as a CNJ/WHM and it was fucking great. I bought the game 4 months later and after reaching 50 got Heavensward and put in 1,200 hours.
Yes, DPS have shitty queues and Healers and Tanks have awesome ones, that is true. As for the sloww ass combat, all jobs are like that until maybe the mid 40's when you get a lot more skills to make things interesting, but it doesn't help you picked the sleepiest class in the game.tfw you have all tanks and healers max level but your highest DPS is 50 because you hate their q's and gave up on them all except for cross class skills

You will probably have more fun as a DPS class, but the game won't really feel "faster" until you hit higher levels and have more skills to use that go off the global cooldown. You might as well just try leveling up other jobs, you will get back up to 20 very quickly with the armory bonus, hunting and challenge log

The combat is slow compared to more button mashy games like WoW, but it throws so many more mechanics at you in boss fights that you stop noticing it after awhile, and many classes are designed around the 2.5 seconds global cooldown, such as Monk who reduce their GCD everytime they complete a rotation, Bards who have a plethora of abilities that are designed to be used in-between each GCD, and Black Mages who proc stronger versions of their skills via random chance, thus creating a "reactive" rotation.
Gladiator is certainly the most boring job, but if you don't like other parts of it, it may just not be for you regardless. Final Fantasy XIV excels in its presentation value like its soundtrack and storytelling(which are leagues above any other modern MMO), which a lot of people who are new to MMOs may not appreciate.
See if you can get to Titan which is at 30 or 35 I think, and if that fight doesn't impress you then fuck it.

It's probably better to level a dps class first because you will be less dependent on dungeon queues your first time through since most of your leveling will be done through quests and the like.
Ninja/thief is probably the only class that takes off relatively quickly.

Level Arcanist. Arcanists are special in that they start as DPS, but at level 30 they can become either a Summoner(DPS) or Scholar(Healer).
They can be switched back and forth as much as you want as long as you do all the quests for both, so you get two jobs for the price of one.
Also Scholar is probably the most fun job in the game, as they're known for being masters of healing and deal decent damage at the same time, kind of like a Red Mage.

Mitigation is always better than direct healing, and if using Eos Scholars are incredible main healers. The only reason why Scholars are designated to off-healer position is because they're better damage dealers than the other two and Selene's haste buff is too good to warrant using Eos.

The game is unbearably simple until level 30-40ish as far as combat goes. If you want to play a faster class, try NIN, MNK, or Bard. BY the time you hit 60 though, things smooth out on any class as you have a lot of abilities off the GCD (except SMN, boring as fuck, SCH is fun though), plus shortened GCD from skills. It's not for everyone, this is a game best enjoyed by people who really like FF in general,MMOs and story-driven games.

No they aren't. They have the lowest DPS out of all 3.
The only reason people let Scholar's DPS so much and the reason they're seen as the "DPS healer" is because their DPS is sustainable, not because it's good.
On all parses a WHM and an AST will come out on top of Scholar in terms of DPS, both in single target (due to much higher potencies on practically everything) and better AoE spells (AoE DPSing as a Scholar is trash and Bane has severely poor diminishing returns on multiple mobs.)

ive played about a year and a half of ffxiv
and no it doesn't get better, it gets worse
slow shitty combat thats just button pressing on hotbar for 30-45 minutes straight per dungeon
game is always dead feeling, with no community to speak of due to half the players being on ps4 and only have controllers, youll end up in dungeons for 40 minutes and wipe 2x on the boss before the retarded DPS finally start to talk and then try to blame you as they sit in the fire/fail basic mechanics
also the most damning thing about it, is the fact that its themepark, endgame is nothing more than the most boring kind of treadmill
i'd suggest something like ESO or Black desert.

FFXIV as a whole is dying very fast, they spent too long catering to the cancerous tryhards who pretend to be professional raiders, and then only .5% of the actual playerbase see all the game's content, so people just start leaving.
FFXIV also has huge core issues that have never been addressed, like no PC ui addons, servers all located in fucking canada so its always shit connection/ shit lag, the crafting system is awful, and all the classes are extremely generic creatively bankrupt wow-carbon copy classes.
there are like 100 other issues like the rampant gold spam/gold selling, the lack of community presence, the removal of gold spam report, the completely unfriendly GM system where you have to go out of your way to report the spam, instead of them making it more convenient and improving ways to defeat it.
the dev team sort of gave up, and what theyve started to do is just have side teams generate pointless side content and fluff, while releasing 1-2 bosses every 3-4 months
so like i said, move onto better things because FFXIV devs have given up a long time ago

Just try to cultivate some relations with other players you see frequently. I know it sounds dumb, but being friends with other players really does pay off in the long run.
Even though I'm not doing the hardcore raid this patch cycle I got Sep ex down the day I got back because I'm friends with several raiders. Put a little effort into being with people and they're usually more then willing to lend you a hand when you need it.

Dark knights are just weaker paladins that has to push more buttons to achieve the same things as other tanks. Drk being preferred over pld is simply because of magical vs physical battle design, which are hypocritical as fuck considering they removed any sort of player vs enemy affinity systems like elementals and piecing/slash/debuff (they're only player to player supports now).

I think Heavensward made Paladin at least bearable to play. Managing a couple dotseven if it's as simple as 123-c123-124and getting to choose when the appropriate time to DPS or use your enmity attacks was a step in the right direction. I flat out refuse to run my level 50 roulette with Paladin any longer because I can't go back to 123 spam after playing at 60.

I have looked everywhere for an answer to this but since no one gives a flying fuck about Feast, it's a bit difficult.
Is there an accuracy cap in The Feast PvP? At first I went in my regular gear, found out I was retarded and since then have got myself gear with nothing but Crit/Det in them.
I haven't experienced many issues, except the fact that sometimes my big combo misses. I can't tell if it's because my accuracy is too low, or if the healer is using some kind of spell that makes them invulnerable. My heart sinks whenever I waste my skills for nothing.

Healers are all cast intensive so you can't escape that. However:
WHM: Strongest heals with some decent DPS. However all of their attacking spells can and probably will miss if you haven't melded accuracy. Holy spam is fun and does mitigate damage.
SCH: Has the most liberal use of off cooldown heals thanks to aetherflow and will never run out of MP for the same reason. Has the most consistent DPS due to their dots (three of which can't miss).
AST: has okay heals, only one off cooldown heal though. Their DPS is the weakest of the three by far with only 2 dots and also Gravity sucks dick compared to holy. They do have card use which makes them feel like they have more to do when they aren't DPSing/healing

A good AST paired with a good DPS can be greater than the sum of their parts. For that reason, it's best played if you have someone you know. SCH is good all around, and WHM will practically idiot-proof any dungeon run because of how well they can keep people alive if they're focusing on healing only.

The graphics are worse in 1.0 if you actually spent time in it. Only thing it does nicer than ARR is normal mapping on textures (majority of them are flat in ARR), and using a blue colour mood at night instead of black.
I do miss the higher quality icons though. The kicker? The lodestone has higher quality icons for everything in ARR as well but we're stuck with shitty icons at 40x40 pixels ingame.
