No fucking thanks.
>>
>>330238547
Yeah and Nvidia just fried the Kepler lineup with a driver just in time.

>Pascal
You mean a dieshrunk Maxwell with bolted on FP64 will beat a brand new architecture?
Fantastic joke.
>>
Even if these are cheaper Fury die-shrinks cashing-in on what people thought were steep Vive requirements, that'd still be pretty great for people that've been sitting on upgrading on the cheap, since even the non-X Fury is a based as fuck card, and making them cheaper would give people wanting a near-high tier upgrade an option beyond the 970 or space heater 390's
>>
>>330239841
All the VR devs I've talked to are targeting the 970 for low specs.
>>
I thought Fury was a new architecture?
>>
>>330240970
So what, VR requires a 390x/980 or above for a decent experience? Do they know only like 5% of the market owns those?
>>
>>330241125
>Do they know only like 5% of the market owns those?
But how much of the market will be looking at VR anyway?

Defiantly not me, my GPU is 4 years old.
>>
>>330241125
I said low not minimum.
>>
>>330241125
well if you're gonna spend 400 dollars for VR, you probably already bought a good rig just because you like gayming that much
>>
>>330241123
Fury is GCN 1.2, same architecture as the 285/380x, but using HBM instead of GDDR5. 390/390x are GCN 1.1, for example.

Polaris is allegedly a brand new architecture.

>mfw I'll be jumping from a DX10.1 GPU to a full DX12 GPU
DX11 was a meme
>>
>>330241778
Nah at its core it's still a 16 wide vector SIMD array cluster with external thread dispatch.

It's not like the change from VlLW4 to GCN, more like VLIW5 to VLIW4 (lower was newer)

>>330242061
So, GCN 1.3?
>>
>>330241793
Quite the contrary, DX 10 didn't last long. DX 11 is the new DX 9.
>>
>>330242162
Might be more apt to call it GCN 1.5

From what I've read there were some serious modifications to the thread dispatch, general layout, tessellator, and cache.
>>
>>330241123
Fiji was Hawaii x2 with a new memory controller.
Polaris is the largest change since GCN was made.
>>
>>330242354
Wikipedia says "GCN 4th Generation "GCN 1.3/2.0" (Arctic Islands/Polaris)", so it may end up being 2.0 instead
>>
>>330242331
And it only took 3-ish years for it to actually start making a dent in DX9's marketshare

DX10's literally-who status and the passive-aggressive movement to stay on XP held back PC ports more than consoles could even dream

>DX10's literally-who status and the passive-aggressive movement to stay on XP held back PC ports more than consoles could even dream
No. Long after everyone moved to Win7 games were still being developed for DX9 because of 7th gen consoles. It wasn't until 2014 that games started to truly adopt DX11 because, you guessed it, that's what 8th gen consoles support.

Fucking Witcher 2 in 2011 was DX9 for that reason.
>>
>>330242404
Not exactly, 1.2 added in a number of new instruction sets, as well as DCC (though Fiji has so much bandwidth that DCC is marginal). Also some multimedia stuff. Uses less power per cluster.
>>
>>330243234
There were already mainstream DX10+ games by 2011 like Battlefield 3.

And now the consoles are both DX12, and Windows 10 is free.

The meme comes full circle.
>>
>>330243738
This just means either everyone does with 7 the same thing they did with XP, or we have to pray Vulkan is the rendering savior we've been promised

2014 like that other anon said was late but DX11 wasn't adopted more until years after it was introduced because of consoles. That's why as soon as new consoles released everything was DX11 64 bit. It should have happened years earlier but only the occasional console port and some PC games did DX11 before that time and almost nobody was doing 64 bit even though Crysis and Far Cry both supported 64 bit forever ago.

>>330243738
PS4 doesn't use DX12, it has its own custom API. And in any case everyone is sick of Microsoft's bullshit forced obsolescence so a lot of people (like me) aren't moving to Windows 10 even if it is free. I'm betting on Vulkan, though I'm still probably going to lose that bet.
>>
>>330244096
Not really Consoles fault, a lot of people got comfy on Windows XP & DX10 GPU's

Even when the DX11 only games started coming out in 2013 people were bitching
>>
>>330244557
>Not really Consoles fault
That's why games just suddenly started switching entirely to DX11 64 bit after current gen consoles came out. Reminds me of people saying devs didn't support good graphics in their PC versions because most people didn't have good PCs but then when new consoles came out we get a decent upgrade in graphics. It's obvious by the time frames if you're paying attention that consoles were the reason. Because in 2013 (or whenever the PS4 and Xbone came out) there wasn't a large migration of people on PC to better hardware. It was just because new consoles came out and devs decided to take advantage of hardware that we had had for years because now their locked funboxes can do stuff decently.

My card just died last week. Should I wait for this to ship out? My previous card was a gtx 260.
