>i5 4590/4690k -$200
>970/290 - $250/$200
> 8gb of cheapest ddr3 ram - $40
>h97 mobo or whatever 1150 chipset that has the shit you want(usb 3.0, x # of hdmi/dvi ports, etc etc) - $60-80
>500/700w psu, depending on which gfx card you chose(pref seasonic or corsair seasonic rebrands) $50-75
>1tb hdd $40
>120gb/240 gb ssd on sale @ jet (they're having rly strong ssd sales right now due to recent inventory) $40-60
>mid size compatible with your mobo/gfx card(290's are reallllllly wide)
>check for compatability through pcpartpicker

>watch youtube building guide(newegg or tomshardware has decent ones)

op here. will this allow me to run lets say the witcher 3 on max settings or what.
>>
>>322858980
Yes, @ 1080p you might have to turn down Hairworks. Some gameworks features are ridiculously demanding. Just check benchmarks an i5-4xxx + 970 combo has been benchmarked by literally thousands of websites/reviewers on nearly every single game out there

alright thank you. and is there any upsides or downsides to a gaming laptop?
>>
>>322859595
Upsides: portability

Downsides: Cut your specs per unit price in half.
>>
>>322859595
you'll be paying twice as much as what you'd be paying for a tower and your upgrade options are SEVERELY limited but it's still viable

Don't waste those $800 now. Save more money to buy a PC that can handle VR, you can thank me later.
