The foundation and general idea of the game is solid, but it needs some revision before it can great. I think the overabundance of Charlie was a symptom of a game that's a just little too centralized, so a jack-of-all-trades like him becomes master of a few. They could leave him as-is, fix the minor problems with the game that need fixing anyway, and I think everything would be fine.
Daigo vs. Tokido was the best match of EVO IMO (though I didn't get to see a lot of top 32) and is probably what the game was designed to be, glad I caught that amidst all the schedule fuckery that delayed Killer Instinct.

I only played SSF4. There's something off about SFV. I'm used to the poking and spacing in SF4. It's real chess like. Watching SFV gives off a frantic vibe like there's no sense of characters trying to zone or push each other out. It's like every character is El Fuerte.
The game is broken at it's core and significantly worse than USF4 which was far from a perfect game to begin with. I don't like SF4 and I would play it in a heartbeat over the homogenised mess that is SF5.

I feel like the everything-is-negative-on-block approach makes for a shallow experience, as everything comes down to "do I press a button or hope I fake him out by stalling somehow." That isn't a particularly creative way to play and wears out after a bit. We wanna see and learn tech, and it doesn't have to be complicated tech but just something that makes an opponent think "wow, I didn't think of that." It doesn't have to be some 50/50 vortex thing, but working for better positioning doesn't seem to exist in the game right now outside the usual corner stuff. You just make a guess if your opponent will press a button this time, if he will anti air you this time, if he will jump away tech break OS this time, and adjust according to player habit.
The good thing is that they will add to the system as time goes on, and depth will be included in some form down the road. The current base game is still an OK way to play, just that it can wear thin after a time since there isn't much tech to work on.
