One of the reasons they pushed 'Star Fox Zero controls ruin the game!" so hard was because they saw an opportunity to discredit the long anticipated return of Star Fox. They've also unfairly treated a number of other Nintendo games, like The Wonderful 101 and Fatal Frame V.
At this stage, the only franchises that actually seem to get the scores they deserve are Zelda, Xenoblade, and Fire Emblem... all because they are simply too popular among people who follow the news to try and downplay them.

i mean there were a ton of people excited to hear about and see what Nintendo has been working on for the past 4 years in a fairly beloved franchise so of course it's gonna be talked about, especially when it was the main focus over a three day period with a dozen hours of gameplay footage.
That being said, that was just an initial bump and in no way indicative of how good the game might be. On the contrary, through all the footage they'd shown I have personally gone from the pre-E3 hype of thinking about what the next zelda might be at least 5 times a week to literally not even thinking about it unless i see a post on 4chan like this. My interest in this game has done a complete 180 because of this physics tech demo masquerading as a near finished product while extremely simple shit like the movement of the robotic squids has gone from "clearly scripted cutscene despite Aonuma saying it was actual gameplay" to cheap-wind-up-tinker-toy levels of hobbling like they still haven't figured out dynamic animations which is an indicative reason why the Horse wasn't in the E3 demo and also indicative that this game is secretly worse off looking than it isn't, which is also indicative of an extremely unfinished product (Late 2017 release anyone?), and ALSO INDICATIVE of Nintendo having to cherry pick to show off what was shown in the E3 demo aka they literally showed the best of what is in the game at that point.
I don't want this game to be a piece of garbage but if this is what they've been working on for the past 4 years and this is all they've got to show for it (a physics tech demo circa 2004), then it does not bode well for the release timeframe and whenever it's eventual completion may occur.
