why isn't street fighter 2 at evo?
>>
The game is 100% downloaded these days and playing it is very robotic and predictable.
>>
>>345397960
If you're serious, it is, it's just not a main event anymore, it had it's day in the spotlight, but Capcom isn't going to support it and give it a pro tour and all that since they aren't going to make money off of it anymore.
>>
>>345398201
that sucks. why don't they rerelease it on modern consoles? it's a classic.
>>
>>345398130
as a bonus to my last post, this is absolute bullshit, the game is still super hype, gets plenty of play on Fightcade. This guy has absolutely no idea what he's talking about.
>>
>>345398313
SSF2T HD Remix died off. I don't think people would be that interested in playing it in the here and now.
>>
>>345398543
Yeah they released it last generation, but to be fair HD Remix was garbage that actual ST players hated, so it divided instead of uniting.
>>
>>345397960
Because capcom doesn't give Mr Wizzard money to play it.
>>345398130
>game with as much rngsus as ST
>predictable
Tier list still changes, but only the Japs care.
>>
>>345398618
People still had a chance to experience the ST engine.

I thought it was funny for the SF25 tourney they played HDR but only in ST mode. Capcom themselves couldn't face the HDR mode.
>>
didn't evo used to be a street fighter 2 tournament? imagine if the nba started playing netball lol
>>
i miss sf2
>>
>>345399829
They played 2 from 1996 until 2011

HD Remix, what was supposed to revive it, is ironically what killed it. Along with Corporations bribing their way to evo slots.

>>345398130
>watching a well mastered game with master players is boring
Why do you think people watch real sports? Because they're new?
>>
Because EVO is no longer a grass roots, player organized event. It's a large scale, corporate-funded event. And that means pushing the latest, most profitable games over older ones with small but devoted playerbases.
>>
Is X-Mania still a thing? Or something like it?
>>
>>345403569
Yeah but the jap team format sucks.

http://www.game-versus.net/
Is still alive but same deal, no individual tournaments exist in nippon.
>>
>In before /v/ shitposts about RNG in ST
>>
>>345405070
To be fair, even though lots of other fighters do have RNG, the extremes aren't as noticeable as in SF2.
>>
>>345405332
>in before /v/ overreacts about RNG in ST
>>
>>345397960
It's completely fucking broken. The meta has reached levels that shouldn't be possible.
>>
>>345403040

>Why do you think people watch real sports? Because they're new?

The human body has a lot more diversity to it than a game's code. Will one player accidentally deck another player in the face when pressing a button? Will he run out of bounds, or trip? Are there limitless ways to overcome his opponent/s and succeed in his goal, which take into account his unique body and mind? And what of the opponent? No two human beings are the same, which means that in a physical sport, you never face the same opponent twice... not just in terms of their thinking (which, in itself, is offered a much wider array of options than in a videogame), but also their bodies.

This is why e-sports can't really count on just new players to mix up the scene enough to stay interesting to onlookers. The environment in a computer program is far more controlled than in a physical sporting event. The industry will always need new competitive-geared releases with new environments.
>>
>in before /v/ shitposts about strong tactics in ST

Oh wait, too late.
>>
>>345405847
why don't they release a new sf2 that fixes it? they had enough revisions already
>>
>>345406390
ST's meta is almost unrecognizable from what it was ten years ago. Wholly on the back of people, obviously the game proper hasn't changed.

ST's enduring popularity was always on the back of its simplicity. Given that inherently conservative positioning it's really in a position to be played forever and ever. At least in Japan, where little tournaments are still alive and arcade hardware plentiful.
>>
>>345398618
Only people who hated it were american ST purist. Japanese players actually like it, but capcom never released it in japan.
>>
>>345407302
They sort of tried doing that with HD Remix. It didn't work.
>>
>>345407661
>community begs for over a decade for an arcade perfect port of ST
>give them HD remix instead
What a surprise they didn't like it!
>>
>>345408037
Capcom listened to the community with 3rd strike online and what a surprise it dies in about 3 months.

HDR lasted about 2 years. Companies should not listen to small amounts of people just because they are loud.
>>
>>345408394
3S was never alive like ST was.

It was easier to do this in 2008/2009 where you'd have direct continuity with the old guy ST players in America to pass the torch. Now you can't do that.
>>
>>345408394
>3rd strike

ded gaem.

I'm not trying to bait though. I love ST but the dedicated playerbase is absolutely tiny, it's a shame but EVO is a mainstream event for the most populous games that will draw the most viewers, it's a sellout event.
>>
>>345411265
capcom killed sf2 and evo sold out
>>
Will HD Remix ever come to Steam?
>>
>>345411782
NEVER EVER
>>
>>345411693
Exactly my point.

ST deserves more respect than this, not just for its legacy itself but for the depth of that legacy through the players themselves and how far they've pushed the game. The game is still as good as ever, but money rules all as usual.

I say this as a smash player, it's rather fucking disgusting. I know for a fact Namco and Nintendo probably paid for Smash 4 and tekken to get in. At least with Melee they earned it with viewers and the games worth itself. ST or at least other better games than Tr4sh shoulda got in instead.
>>
>>345397960

Ive only ever played super street fighter 2. What is turbo like?
>>
>>345414003
Addition of super combos, juggles, and throw teching. Lots of new and modified moves. Lots of balancing tweaks.
>>
>>345414003

it's faster, and you can play old characters without super bars.
>>
>>345414003
You get to play ST version of characters as well as "Old" (SSF2 versions characters with some tweaks for some of them like more cancelable frames off of close normals).

In short, roster is 2x bigger.
>>
It's not nearly as complex as Melee and thus it can't hope to stay competitive for as long as Melee will (ie forever)
>>
>>345398732
>Tier list still changes
Oh really?
Who's top tier besides Claw, Boxer and O. Sagat?
>>
>>345397960
too simple and casual
>>
But it is. All SF are literally identical so whatever button masher was on stage tonight is the same shit as SF2.
>>
>>345397960
same reason SF4 isn't at evo. capcom isn't paying for it
>>
>>345415989
>Melee shillfag
>>
>>345397960
It's around in an unofficial off-stage manner. If you want to find drunken casuals or even cash games of any fighting game in shady hotel rooms well past their legal occupancy limit; you can do it.
>>
>>345418337
>too simple and too casual

SFV is infinitely more casual than ST
>>
>>345418790
Not really, you can pick up O. Ken, O. Sagat, Ryu, Boxer pretty easily. They're well rounded
>>
>>345418573
But SF2 has some legacy unlike SF4. Remember that SF2 was way past its shelf life already once Evo began
>>
>no blow ups
>no drama
>no after parties
>no salty suites
>no crazy money matches

But hey, ESPN2! Esports!!!!!!!!!
>>
>>345418242
Chun for starters, but that's not a real recent change.
>o. sagat
What hasn't changed is that no one in Japan plays him.
>>
>>345420391
All that doesn't require ST though, that's more a function of corporate money making everyone boring regardless of the game.
>no after parties
Only thing that still exists.
>>
>>345406390
Tell that to Chess, fucker and not online, then see what happens.
>>
Too old.
>>
>>345397960
It is.
Games are played at places other than main stage.
>>
>>345421342
Got any good links/websites for new, high level ST videos and stuff?
>>
>>345423468
SUPER TURBO SATURDAYS
>>
>>345423468

Spend like half an hour on the videos page and you'll know the name of all the extant Jap tournaments.
