of course I do. I give them "human" names 99.9% of the time.
Only exception is Legendaries. They're too special in-universe to rename.

I also named some Japanese names, like my Eevee in Heartgold is named after the japanese name of the protag in PokemonXD: Gale of Darkness
On my last run through red, I named them after wrestlers.
Usually I pick from whoever happened to be on T.V. at the time. When wrestling wasn't on, I just go with what I thought fit.

only myth I know that is 100% legit is the hold down + B one, if they are on low enough health you will catch them as long as you hold down and B, if you don't there is a chance they will still pop back out. 1st gen only.
