Now that the dust has settled, does the Sega Genesis do even one thing better then the SNES?

I honestly can't think of anything and I actually love both systems.

Run games without slowing down.
>>
It looks better and doesn't turn piss yellow.

Mega Man Wily Wars proves otherwise.

better cases too. Also the music is better depending on the type of game.

But overall SNES beats it in terms of quality of games.

>pal snes

It's the Super Famicom, famicom

Also PAL systems are all 50hz, they're inferior to NTSC ones by default.

Also I like both the SFC and US SNES tbqh.

>not owning both

I was just too lazy to type super famicom.
>>
>>345199168
It came out two years earlier.

And has better version of Earthworm Jim's soundtrack.
>>
>>345199168
Super Nintendo doesn't have a portable version of itself.

GBA. Hence why most popular SNES games got ported there.
>>
>>345202032

Not him, but it's not the same, Nomad was really a portable Genesis.
GBA is a different system that got ports of SNES games.

Still, Nomad was a flop and a battery killer, but it was kinda ahead of its time.

There are portable SNES nowadays (Super Boy or something), but Nomad was official and released in the 90s.
>>
>>345199168

epic memes aside, it's true that the Genesis processor was faster than the snes. Treasure in particular put it to good work.

The music is better than the SNES on modern emulators.

Genesis has a better sound design, but the Yamaha chips used in dev boxes and pre-production models were too expensive (due to yamaha price hikes) so they settled on the cheaper shittier dsp.

Only one consumer model (Model 1 VA7) has the YM3438 setup instead of the shitty integrated YM2612 on every other unit (which sounds like garbage - so for all intents and purposes, SNES sounds better since you don't have find a super rare unit just to have nice sound)
>>
>>345202032
You can't put SNES cartridges in a GBA

not ahead of its time at all. This came out 5 years before nomad.
>>
>>345202156

It's true, but good developers could code good shit on the SNES too. Companies like Natsume or Compile made games with high paced action and little to no slowdowns on SNES.
I'd like to see what Treasure could have pulled off on the SNES.

The things the Genesis did better:
-Much greater CPU speed (7.67 MHz as opposed to the 3.58 MHz the SNES had)
-An FM Synth (Yamaha YM2612)
-A bigger default resolution (320x224, most SNES games were only 256x224 despite being able to go as far as 512x448, but virtually none did due to the slowdown headache it created)
-Headphone output (even volume control on the original model)
-Master System backwards compatibility (though you needed an adapter because of the MS different shaped cartridge)
-Later models had internal ROM (1 MB)

Things the SNES did better:
-More RAM (128 KB as opposed to 64 KB)
-Sound RAM (64 KB over 8 KB)
-Sound Channels (8 instead of 6)
-Colors (32,768 as opposed to 512 (though flickering allowed for more))
-Simultaneous colors possible (256 rather than the meager 64 the Genesis had)
-Onscreen planes (1-4 layers with varying uses,
depending on the mode (0-7) in use. Sega had 2 scrolling layers, 1 sprite layer, 1 window plane)
-Maximum simultaneous sprites and sprite size (128 in 64x64 as opposed to 80 in 32x32)

Though the last two where more even than they appear since the Genny could brute force more with its faster CPU.

It's been fucking ages since I've even bothered to look for a "current" genesis emulator. What're the up to date ones now?

Yes, when the differences between consoles actually mattered.
Now fuck off and let the adults talk.
>>
>>345204816
I agree, that was a great port, and the 32X one a shoddy hack job that could have been done better by a competent team on a vanilla Genesis.
>>
>>345203163
So in other words:
Things that Genesis did better: everything relevant to the actual gameplay.
Things that SNES did better: nothing relevant to the actual gameplay.
>>
Better CPU
Higher native resolution

That's really about it. Genesis soundchip sounds like farts.

Both had great games. Genesis had better Earthworm Jim despite worse music.

>more RAM

Also, what this anon said: >>345202280
>>
>>345205662
Rather, if you were familiar with arcade architecture you where more at home with the Genesis, and if you weren't but knew your stuff you could just code in C and even C++ and then convert.

SNES was more of a headache to code for, but it was much easier to make the graphic and sound assets, especially if you had worked before with an Amiga. Furthermore, that Super FX was mighty attractive.
>>
>>345205662

I did like the controllers better for gameplay. Nintendo did the smart thing going with so many buttons.

The six button controller on genesis was great, but since it was an optional accessory, there weren't many non-fighting games that actually used them. SNES had the advantage of it being the normal, expected controller to be using.
>>
>>345206016

>Genesis soundchip sounds like farts

Stop playing terrible Western-developed games.
>>
>>345206016
>Genesis emulation sounds like farts, which makes me the expert Mark.

Many a dreaded GEMS game even sounds pretty rad if you look for a direct capture instead of taking whatever shoddy emulation Professor G is using on youtube at face value.
Furthermore, competence played a part. Many multiplats sound way better on Genesis. Many sound better on SNES. Had more to do with how you used the two very different approaches to music and sound.
