I'm in the market for a Playstation 2 what model should I get?
The big brick of course.
Fat ones support HDD if you want to play one of the 5 games that supported it. But the lasers are getting very unreliable especially if you're buying an early model. The small one is more reliable and less noisy.

If not, go with slim.

the phats are overall better for most things. They offer more identical PS1 hardware than the slims, they have HD compatibility (so you can just play backups without burning 100 dvds), and they have far better compatibility with ps1 games than the slims (some ps2 games are even incompatible with the slim)

The slims are kind of nice though because the build quality on them is good. They also have better lasers than the phats, which is nice.
Honestly i would just pick up both, ps2's are dirt cheap.

Yea I think i'll go with a ps2 slim. I've heard lots about different models of the slim having different things, what model of the slim is the best?
I like the idea of having a PS2 again, but I think I'm going to build a pc in the next couple if years so I'll just emulate.

it was probably just your laser, blue discs are mostly CD's.
You can go into the settings and turn on "diagnosis" which usually solves 90% of PS2 CD/blue DVD games disc read errors.
the rare ocassion that it doesn't, you can try recalibrating the laser, cleaning, or at the last resort tweaking your laser.
