Gaming communities make me cringe. I used to trae vidya on gametz years ago but game collectors/dealers are some of the worst people. I have lurked on gamefaqs forums since 2000 ish. I havent read a video game review in forever.

Pros are that you're far more likely to have real conversations about video games. The threads are more focused, and you'll see people talking about what makes the game good/bad. I've had some of the best games discussions ever there, and the community really does want to discuss.
Also, it's got some cool people there. Like a group of people who decided to start making a game of their own, called Anton and Coolpecker, which is supposed to be like Banjo-Kazooie. Even if it doesn't come out, it's got some cool music. And there's ROBfag, the guy who made all those storytimes with R.O.B. and Gameboy.
Cons? If a game ever gets involved with social justice stuff, even a little bit, you better believe it's never going to be talked about again without that coming up. It's a consequence of what formed 8/v/, it's going to have a much stronger reaction to sjw stuff than 4/v/ has.
Basically, it's either much better, or much worse than here, depending on whether or not it's involved with sjws in the slightest or not.

Just go to the site, click on boards, and search robgb, and you'll find his board. It's got all of the story threads he made on 8/v/, and some of the old 4/v/ ones, too.
But yeah, it's fun to go on. A big enough group to have active threads, but not big enough to have to deal with the usual bullshit. 4/v/ still has perks above it (way faster threads being the biggest one), but they are two different beasts.
