Thriller Bark isn't that hard if you prioritize getting Oars off the map. The longer he stays on field the harder it is for you to get an S in kills and ! because he kills the enemies. It's annoying because you have to play it multiple times for the treasure events

Fuck yeah it would. Surprisingly, Pirate Warriors has the best combo system and move list out of almost all the musou titles. Most of them have just one attack button and one strong attack button that ends combos. PW has a combo strings for both attacks and the variety can be pretty damn great depending on the character you pick.

If you're even slightly interested in the actual story I suggest reading the manga. If you prefer to pass, I dunno, you might still like PW3, at least all the crazy shit and superpowers will come as a surprise. It also has a story mode that goes through the majority of the manga's current content but very dumbed down.

Well I wasn't exactly comparing to a fighting game. I suppose combo strings wasn't the most appropriate term, but you know what I mean. Both attack buttons can be used to start an attack combo and have different finishers unlike most musou titles.
As for the first game having proper fighting game combos, it was good in theory but a lot of the movesets were really clunky. Going back to it every once in a while and relearning the movesets is a little fun, but it was still the first game so most of them don't really flow too well into each other or kill as much as one would hope. The sequels may have streamlined it but they also improved pretty much everyone's combo and damage potential.
