to show off the physics. You must not have been born yet in 2004 or youd understand that physics puzzles and ragdolls in games were a relatively new thing.
>>
>>345064265

Implying I didn't just stack the bricks into stairs.

Ayyy lmao.
>>
Fuck off with this autistic shit, who the fuck even cares, its just a fucking puzzle
>>
I don't get it. People complained when games didn't have physics, so games like Half Life 2 made great strides in that department and now people are complaining about it too? What do you want?

You don't even want to play games.
>>
>>345064574
I never bothered with this series because it looked stupid.

Glad you fags never got your real ending. Insufferable elitists.

people who complain were too young to realize how fucking crazy it was seeing the source engine. Same thing with seeing the Portal tech demo. That mechanic was unheard of and blew my fucking mind.
>>
>>345064881
dude anon lmao
>>
>>345064574

It was really nothing to jerk off too, plenty of games had dedicated physics engines years before HL2

>>
>>345064265
It took 20 seconds, and was one of the few mandatory physics puzzles. You probably didn't even notice some of the things earlier in the game you could have played with, like the playground.
>>
>>345065032
Max Payne 2 used Havok physics over a year before Half Life 2.

Prey had portals before Portal.

Get out of here underage

>>345065274
hey don't worry champ, i'm sure episode 3 will come out next year at E3 :^)

I replayed HL2 and its episodes last week. Man, I forgot just how proud Valve was of their physics. It's cool and all but golly there's a ton of it.
>>
>>345065143
Name a single game that came out before Half Life 2 that employed a physics engine as detailed and intricate as HL2's that used it in the same way. Just one game.

Psi-Ops, and it had a BETTER physics system.
>>

There were portal mods for halo CE, portal only made everything look clean.
>>
>>345065350
haha. wut? I wasn't talking about half life 3. I was talkin bout how much of a social reject you are.
>>
>>345065403
Half Life 2 used Havok physics a middleware engine you could actually just buy and put into your games. Quite a number of games before HL2 had it.

Half Life 2 was probably the first to integrate the Havok tech demo shit into actual gameplay. Lazy.
>>
>>345064574
Source doesn't even run it's own physics engine, it just uses Havok, and three-dozen or more games used Havok before HL2 even.

The only people that sperged over HL2's physics were people that bought into Valve's hype.

Fuck, can't argue with Psi-Ops. That game was 11/10, god I miss it.
>>
Rocket Robot on Wheels was an N64 game with gameplay based around physics.

What now Valvefriends?

Max Payne 2 came out a year before HL2 and had the ragdolls and environmental items flying all over the place. Tresspasser came out 6 years before and let you pick up and throw objects and had physics puzzles. It also had inverse kinematics, which wasn't common for even years after HL2, and HL2 didn't have it either.

>>345065913
I was really surprised at the game's physics when I played it. I don't remember too many N64 games having that detailed of physics models. Even some PC games at the time didn't have physics as good.

This game is the literal embodiment of Reddit. There's nothing interesting about it, I keep hearing about how advanced the game is yet I watch gameplay and the sound design is from 1974, Meanwhile, actual good games like Halo 2 on the xbox had full Dolby Digital, havok physics, and a sequel.

>To be fair they got the "WOAH DUDE PHYSICS" stuff out of the way in the first 3 chapters for the most part until the fun as fuck gravity gun sequence.

>>
>>345066781
really? all i can think of is the one time where you pushed the washing machine in to the elevator to raise the boat ladder. There's also the gravity gun which was fun and well made.

>b-but muh gimmicky ravenholm traps.
they barely existed and could be ignored aside from the ones needed to traverse the level like the car trap
>>
>>345066708
Rocket's physics engine was really impressive. Supposedly they had to do shitloads of MIPS assembly to get it working on the N64's CPU (which had a performance level equivalent to a really fast 486 or a slow Pentium).

It does take some approximations though. Round objects are basically calculated as being like octogonally sided.
