Your girlfriend is retarded, Ghibli films tend to have excellent English dubs. The main problem I have with dubbed anime is that it's always the usual suspects (good as they may be in some roles, it's just annoying that there's only a small pool of English VAs for Jap shit). Ghibli films don't dip into this pool that much so I think that makes the dubs easier to stomach.
