I've learned that having a giant group of "friends" isn't as good as having 1-4 real, actual friends. The type of friends that will be there if your car breaks down at 2 am. It's a hard pill to swallow when you're young and shallow though, you want everyone to love you, but once those people that "love" you don't come through when you need them, you realize who your real friends are.
Not to say networking isn't great for getting ahead in life, but nothing beats having a couple loyal to the end tier friends that are always gonna be there for you, through thick and thin.
