For me it was XCOM: The Bureau.
It came bundled with a bunch of other stuff I wanted so I didn't care not having heard about it before, and I started playing it expecting a game like EU except set around Roswell and shit. Got obred after 15 minutes.
A few weeks later I played it again to be a merchant and unlock the cards, and ended up loving it. Have since done two playthroughs.

ive noticed it usually comes down to how good of a start you get on games like these. i had to replay the first 30 mins or so of NV a couple times to learn where the skill checks were and how to build my character to meet them for free exp and cutting out the tedious parts of gameplay. same with EYE, mostly learning to invest in legs at the start and get the damn medkit
oh and mega man X and battle network recently, but that was just moreso gitting gud than anything

Lethal playthrough is much easier. Epecially on PC headshots are trivial. I did a lethal playthrough first and never knew that you could actually fail saving Malik.
Terraria. The beginning of the game was so tedious that I quit for a long time. Eventually, I tried Terraria again and I loved it. Currently have 750+ hours clocked into it.

It took me 20+ tries to get her, and that's only because I fucking sold my only EMP grenade right before that part so I had to use the two frag mines I was carrying to destroy the mech. No doubt I could have done it easily if I had that EMP.
I probably would have gotten ghost too because I was invisible the entire time munching down energy bars.

I just started a new game and things are actually going well for now.
I dropped it over a year ago pretty quickly when a quest bugged out and didn't spawn a vital creature and I wasted hours trying to find out why I wasn't able to complete the quest.
I've started it up with some mods to patch it and it seems like an alright game.
