Has there ever been a game like pokemon go, as in how it impacted the world

It's been dying down since the 90's, but this shit just came out of no where and reached heights not previously seen in the franchise (or most franchises for that matter). From Nintendo's Comic-Con press release:

>Photo Opportunities (July 21-24): At various times during all four days, popular characters like Mario, Luigi, Pikachu, Kirby and Jibanyan from the YO-KAI WATCH series will make surprise appearances to take photos with fans.

There's something weirdly hilarious about how they had to name the series from which the "popular" Jibanyan comes.
>>
>>344968574
Seriously, do you people even play the game
>pokestops reset every five minutes
>with lures on them, Pokemon appears every two to three minutes
>rare Pokemon occasionally appear every hour or so
It's more efficient to find a place with two or three stops in close proximity and just stay there with lures
>>
Eh unless they add more features soon the game will dry up. I don't understand why people are surprised or offended that it is popular. It will be a fad and forgotten by fall. There is no battling system, and the novelty of catching pokemon will quickly dry up when they realize there is little to do with the ones you catch.

That being said I am playing it and enjoying it for what it is. I use it during my jogs or when I am bored and instead of watching tv I will take a walk with it. I think it is a secret weapons by Trump to make America skinny again.

Pokemon is the pokemon company (which nintendo owns 30% of). Gamefreak happens to make the mainline games.

No, they are both right
Nintendo owns 33%
Pokemon company owns 33% (Which is owned by nintendo so that anon is correct)
Total comes to 66% for Nintendo

Gamefreak owns the other 33%

People are already getting fucking tattoos of their teams and it's just been eight days since it came out. Yesterday there were three lures at my park at 2 am in the morning full of guys grinding out the gyms there.

It's just the beginning.
>>

Because it's a SOCIAL PHENOMENA apparently, and news stations want in so they won't seem like they're out of the picture.

Pokemon is one of those things Japan spat out that became really popular. And some sort of reality augumented pokemon, no matter how minor it actually is in reality, is going to mega popular.

And now it is. And now that it's popular people are talking about it. And now that people are talking about it more people are playing it. And now that more people are playing it more people are talking about it. Yadda yadda. Obvious shit.

It's being shilled by everyone because it's what so many people have wanted, technically, which is to be able to go out and catch pokemon outside of your normal pokemon game.
>>
>>344977276
It's because everyone is so goddamn surprised at how fast this app blew up. It's really interesting and everyone wants to be apart of it

That's fake. He just changed the text.
"On Tuesday night, things came to a head. Buzzfeed reports that at some residents—reacting to the “complete chaos” and “massive levels of noise”—started throwing waterbombs and eggs at the crowd.
The police then turned up, issuing tickets to illegally-parked cars just outside, then warning the crowd that they’d have to disperse or face AUD$200 fines.

Which is maybe understandable! Yes, it’s a public park, but considering its location (surrounded by apartments) and the number of players involved that’s a lot of noise being made and a lot of people being kept up in the middle of the night.

To maybe help chill things out, last night someone was there handing out drinks and sausage sandwiches (Australians love some sausage-in-bread), while Sydney’s Pokémon Go Facebook group is doing a good job of policing some of the fallout."

Yeah, Ingress look pretty cool, but I think it's more "risky"? Because you are in direct competition with other players. In Pokemon you just capture shit and sometimes capture a gym. In Ingress, you need to stay in the zone and hack long enough. This mean that an enemy player can see you sitting there on your phone and get annoyed that he has to keep his turf.
>>
>>344967860
Not really since they wouldn't remember how huge it was when it originally released. It's always been pretty popular, but nothing this big since around 2000.
>>
>>344979372
You mean, Minecraft?
>>
>>344979085
Yeah except there's no mystery why pogo is more successful; it is way simpler and appeals to a much wider audience. Only a small amount of people would ever go on Twitter to post, "I just took an Ingress portal", but "I just caught a Pikachu" instantly grabs attention. I wouldn't be surprised if Google was using Ingress the entire time to set up for pogo.
>>
>>344979171
