I'm fucking dying over here. But honestly, the article has a point. It is why PC will never be the domineering platform in terms of market share - it's just not as easy to manage as a console, and the average consumer wants easy. PC is still very much enthusiast territory in spite of the echochamber mentality this board sometimes adheres to. That's not to say it's a bad thing but the article isn't entirely wrong in that this is actually how the average person views PC building.

>You also have to make sure the parts are compatible.
Its pretty hard to mess up part compatibility these days, pretty much any motherboard you buy will have a PCI-E X16 slot and thats all you need for any video card on the market. Any half decent power supply will have all the connectors you would ever need. RAM you just have to match the speed with your processor which is stupid easy (It will automatically downclock in most cases if its too fast anyway).

Processor is literally
>Your motherboard has this Intel or AMD slot
>There's generally only 1 for the latest processors
>Matching these up is not hard.

Prebuilts are always an option if this is somehow too hard for you.... I literally built my first computer when I was 15.

Honestly if you can't figure these things out you deserve to have an underpowered console, PC building is way easier than it used to be and quick google searches will give you any info you would need.

It use to be hard to find all of the compatible parts, but pc part picker does that for you. PC gaming's real disadvantage is the fact that it's not a 'whole' platform despite the price. If you have to buy a PS4 for Japanese (ie: Good) games, then why buy the PC in the first place when the PS4 already has most of the same games?

People that don't know shit about computers just buy prebuilt or buy expensive gaming laptops, after that they just learn that they need to turn down shadow settings, filters, AA, etc in newer games and then they have a gaming PC.

I just don't know how Steam OS hasn't been a thing, just make an idiot proof OS with basic OS features that Windows has that is aimed at pure gaming performance and allocation of resources to all gaming apps when running, and you'd still have an internet browser, youtube, some sort of desktop, email, a few media players, notepad type shit, etc.

Yeah this is definitely true, but the thing for me is when something does break on a console your basically fucked. In most cases you have to pay a ridiculous fee for sony/microsoft to fix it, void your warranty attempting anything yourself or buy a new one.

Console failure rates are also higher than they used to be my SNES,N64 work just as well as the day I bought nearly 20 years later. I doubt many PS3s, 360's, Xbones and PS4s will be functioning in 20 years.

I had to send my original 360 in for the RROD shit on two separate occasions and I've heard the failure rate on the big PS3s is pretty high.

That's not the main reason. Most publishers don't see PC as anything more than extra money, not a standalone platform. Japanese publishers see PC exclusively as a dumping ground for ancient games while they continue building exclusive games for PS4. PC also lacks cutting edge exclusives that have the same hype or desirability as console exclusives. By all means, PC is actually the underdog platform in the console wars.

What gets me is you can easily build a gaming ready PC for the $600 range, or do some modifications on a pre-build and make it functional for next to nothing. Hell, you can buy a 3rd or 4th gen i5 pre-build off ebay and get a decent card and be set with a good chunk of stuff.

And hell, I have been building for nearly 12 years. Back when there literally was next to no information on doing builds, and youtube still was not at the point it is now with tutorials and guides. There are so many resources, guides, youtube videos, websites dedicated to picking our compatible parts, etc that there is no excuse. I can literally plan out a new build in 5-20 minutes, and probably 40-60 minutes if I was not as knowledgeable.

It's noticeable his solution to the difficulty of building a computer is pointing to proprietary modular systems.

The reason computers are "hard" to put together is because of their greatest strength, that because they conform to a standard you can mix parts from different manufacturers to build the system you want.

Necessitating every piece hardware be developed and licensed to work with that thing Razer is building would drive prices up and innovation down.

Also, to top it off,

>There were some things about my build that were different from the guide, like my CPU Corsair Hydro Series H100i water cooling system, which, unlike a standard heatsink, doesn't require applying thermal paste.

Sites like NCIX exist that will not only tell you if you're buying incompatible parts but will fucking build your entire PC for a small fee if you're not comfortable doing it yourself. You put in some time for research and now you have some more knowledge about PC's and their components and you get access to the best gaming platform in existence. There's a billion tutorials and other shit online to help you if something goes wrong, as well. The only reason to avoid PC gaming is the initial cost (the "console-killer" $500 PC's or whatever are cheap fucking junk, nobody should ever bother with one) but the savings on games narrows that divide pretty quickly. There are reasons to stay on console if you so desire but don't ever use "pc gaming is too complicated" as one of them.

Anon, it's called nepotism and power-congregation. A lot of Jews have high intellect, but there's more to it than that. With whites it makes sense since they make up such a large portion of the population, with Jews they're such a small minority that has a disproportionate amount of power. The main problem being how they use that power at the expense of the nation and its people, not that they have it.

Take your off-topic bitching about /pol/ and whites back to rebbit or tumblr if you can't handle a joke without going into tirades.

The only difference is graphics drivers (which are done automatically by Nvidia/AMD if you want) and graohics settings, which are also done by your GPU card if you want. PC gaming is literally plug and play now, the only thing that ever gives me trouble is older games but there's usually guides on how to get them up and running.

Please stop it with these stupid comparison. You are way too close to a food metaphor and every time someone makes one of those they officially lose the argument.

It will probably have a 480 in it which is $200. How much more value do you need? I'm not deriding the Scorpio but I don't see how it;s a "threat" to PC gaming, especially as it appears Microsoft is going all in on PC gaming now.

And you don't even have to do it once with console gaming. Just plug in and play.

I am not saying I couldn't do it. I can and I have. I am saying I can understand the people who might be scared to. It can be a lot of money. A decent amount of effort and you aren't sure it will work.

We both know it isn't as hard as building your own car but can't you at least see how most people think it is.
Think of your computer illiterate grandma and imagine her buying all the parts and then assembling it all by herself.

Didn't read the thread.

Whyen I built my PC, I basically found some PCs in my budget range on PC part picker. Consulted the builds with some folk current on hardware what they thought of it and got two recommendations. The process took a couple of days before I bought everything and assembled it a week later. My first time putting together a PC took about two hours from unboxing to boot. Pretty pleasant experience overall, though my wire time routing the wires was a bit of a clusterfuck.
