I don't have any current gen handhelds. I never played Dangan Ronpa. Ace Attorney had more endearing characters but by the 3rd game I was tired of the court cases. 999 was a good game.

The one of the biggest issues with DR is that every character has the subtitle: "Ultimate ____"
I feel like half the cast is boxed into one personality trait explicity told to the player via their Ultimate title. A huge chunk of the cast exists either to be killed off, or reside on the sidelines as fanservice. Out of 15 characters, maybe like two of them have any plot relevance, the rest are essentially filler. Terribly written game overall.

AA trials require you to pay attention to the whole case. For example, remembering that Matt talked about blackmailing DeKiller because he recorded him. Then you have to present the video to him.
DR tends to spoonfeed you the answer from the get go, and it has a bad habit of having fluff evidence you never use.

Zero Escape takes the win for 999 and VLR alone. ZTD only needed to cut the ends loose but it failed and the ending was insatisfactory.
Ace Attorney second, but the game is very contradictory and silly when you actually know half a thing about law.
Dangaropa is cool anime hijinks, but meh in comparison to the other two.

I actually like that, in AA everything you collect is useful, it slightly annoys me because it's always super convenient you have just everything you need. With fluff evidence you have to think a little more with what you present.
