Well, it's finally done, Dragon Quest II is the vaguest game I have ever played, I can see why you guys said to move straight to DQ3 after 1.

Now, what version do you guys recommend for Dragon Quest III? I have heard that the GBC is the definitive version, but there also seems to be a fan translated SNES version.
I am looking to start this series from the start as well OP. What platform should I play DQ1 on? And should I skip two? Is it worthwhile?

I actually played both the NES and SNES version of DQ1
While I appreciated the difficulty of the NES version more, I really liked that the SNES version introduced styles, themes, and other elements that were core to the later games.
If you're just looking to see what Dragon Quest is all about, the SNES version is a good place to start. I myself ran 1 and 2 on the NES just out of some meaningless pride.
