People play ARTS/MOBAs instead.
Solo RTS games are generally focused around building/management. In which case people generally just go play a management/simulation game.

I'm playind DoW with the apocalypse mod and playing against AI is pretty fun, I still get destroyed on standard difficulty though

I would get diamond-hard if FPS/RTS aspect was added to LW.
LW is mod for Alien Swarm, which runs on Source engine. Source engine already has multiplayer support, and there is mod for Alien Swarm to play in first person, so putting this all together would result in a Half Life themed multiplayer FPS/RTS hybrid. Would you play game like this?

Only time I ever had fun playing one was Age of Empires II, and it was abusing cheats to make the game chaotic and over-easy.
We're just not meant to be. I don't want to play games I don't want to play/am terrible at and wind up hating legitimately good games.
Same kind of reason I avoid MOBAs too, honestly. Or any real game that relies on cooperation. Shit reflexes and a full second delay in response thanks to a car accident means I just cannot keep up with people, no matter how hard I try.

Fighting games are better for expressing a personal playstyle in a 1v1 situation.
Also don't have to dedicate more than 2 minutes to a match.
Also the fun starts right at the beginning, not after im done building.

I'm playing Men of War: Assault Squad 2 right now.
Still in the process of gettin' gud so I've just been playing skirmishes against the AI.

I can kind of agree with this. SCBW was so fun in the early days when the styles were still being developed. I don't know how people are still hyped about SC2 when the announcers are constantly saying "Okay this is the part where he makes this and then this happens" and they're always 100% right
I grew up with starcraft. I used to want to be pro, and I did get really really good back in high school. Now I'm almost 30 and I'm more than happy to just play RTS with AI or other mediocre players. The tryhard stuff is no longer for me

But OP I am. Currently playing through Barbarossa campaign. Grabbed Age of Empires 2 during sale. I'm glad they didn't massacre the game with the HD edition. I see alot of reviewers shitting on it for not changing the graphics and they can go suck a big fat one.

That is a very good game. I kinda dont like the whole Reclaim/Reprisal wave mechanic, as it kinda punishes aggressiveness on enemy territory. The Starship rebalance is also not something i like too much, i dont like how they pretty much always outlive the fleetballs and generally have strength on par with a cap of equal tier ships.
But what the fuck do i know, i'm just an oldfag who still cant beat a 9/9 AI.
