What else is there in the game besides exploring planets? That would get old fast if that's all there is to do.

I wish shitposting about this game would stop. It looks like it will be good but it's not going to revolutionize the industry.
>>
>>344883496

You should add to that list the following phrases:

>walking simulator
>what do you actually do?
>no multiplayer

It's a whole lot of nothing.

Will be used as a screenshot simulator, nothing more.

They've already shown everything there is to do in the game, and it's not much.

You walk agonizingly slow.

There are no alien cities.

There is little variation in the terrain.

There are no gas planets, planets with volanic activity, no aquatic planets, etc.

I'm just in it for some light, comfy space exploration every once in awhile. I'm on no hype train, I'm not expecting Narvana, the Promised Lands or the Garden of Eden of Space Exploration/Simulation/Intrigue of the Universe.

I just want something to lightly enjoy every now and again and for me, this game does that, I don't want some EVE clone or something like Scam Citizen or the other one with tons of menus.

I also don't expect anything with deep in the game. I'm buying this with the understand that it's going to be as wide as our known universe and more but as deep as a puddle in the middle of a road.

>You can't use the following words though

I can already tell this thread is going nowhere, but fuck it, I'll indulge you.

The biggest problem that I see, which has no doubt been pointed out by hundreds of detractors already, is that I find myself wondering, "what's the point?"

Maybe naming a bunch of shit will be fun for the first couple of planets. Maybe I can get some enjoyment out of murdering some xeno-life, but really, what's the point? It's all gonna feel the same after the first couple of runs. You see, this is the problem with big, psuedo-random generation games like this one. It might look slightly different, but its just a bunch of visually distinguishing assets with no real meaningful variation. It's too much substance with not enough style, like a 4 course serving of mash potatoes.

It's too big for it's own good, give it a month and people will start seeing through the seams.
>>
I'm not worried because now game refunds are a thing for most digital platforms. Even fucking YouTubers will outright say, "I'm probably going to refund this," after they play their 10 minutes of shitty meme games.

There might be an initial boom of popularity for this game, but it won't last long.
>>
>>344883496
It just seems like it won't be full of rich content handcrafted by artisans. We've seen this level of hype before and since it's not coming from Microsoft or Nintendo, we can be assured disappointment. It doesn't look like there's much depth to the interactions with the world. I expect a lot of the visual content will repeat but with a shifted palette. And what exactly is the point of exploring the world. It's not like your friends can join you and after a while I don't think it can keep anyone's interest.

This empty, shallow, scam of a game may win game of the year, but soon people will realize that Sony has released a game with limited, boring gameplay. NMS has admittedly no goal other than to reach the center of its procedurally generated, endlessly recolored universe, without even the allure of multiplayer to keep you hooked into the endgame -- if there even is an endgame.

You would only have to actually download/upload planets when landing/leaving one so I don't think it would require that much storage.

And even if it did they could have provided more incentives to stay on any one planet for longer. Hell if it's multiplayer how fun would it be to just build 2 forts and have a war.

No Mans Sky/Mighty No 9

Nuff' said.
>>
>>344883496
It's an empty, procedurally generated cash-grab scam by Sony that has a shallow world with equally shallow gameplay with no clear goal and nonexistent multiplayer that will ultimately end up being extremely boring.

Fuck your rules, OP.

you are gonna end up with 1% of the galaxy with actually interesting looking landscape and 99% garbage

It's minecraft with better graphics, but space flight instead of crafting. Enjoyment of these game depends on how much you enjoy flying a ship and shooting rocks.

I wish the game allowed us to purcahse/steal a giant starship, and with enough upgrades and research you could build a cannon that can wipe out entire planets -- but in doing so would aggravate the drone machines across the galaxy. Imagine being the galaxy's most wanted, constantly having to upgrade your ship to fend off the hoards.

No one has liked randomly generated "infinite" content in games since people realized it just meant the same shit over and over again with miniscule edits.

Still hope the game will be good but it's not looking like it will.

The planets themselves are all same terrain style with some different stuff tacked on. There are no sheer cliffs, there are no massive spires, there are no gargantuan canyons or trees the size of skyscrapers. The most unique things in those images are eggs, that diamond, and skinnier eggs.

It's an empty procedural Sony scam with shallow gameplay, recoloring, no goal, no multiplayer, no endgame, and it's boring.
>>
I'm hoping and expecting it to be like a 4X game. If it is, then it's all I've ever wanted in a space game. If not, then yes, it will probably get boring pretty quickly. I'm taking a risk with this game and I'm well aware of that, but I want to know if they're hiding a ton about this game considering they've been pretty quiet about it. If I'm wrong, then fuck me I guess.
>>
>>344899147
I dunno about that, they're just random screenshots taken from trailers, using arbitraries criterias like "really big trees" seem a bit weird considering the dev don't want to spoil shit for no reason.

Well, if he shows something on video, then it's safe to assume there's variations of that. Like one ancient video had a giant worm, so it immediatly answer the question "is there giant animals in the game" by "yes", and in a game about exploration I can understand why keeping a few things secrets before release would help.

Plus it's not like he simply showed three planets and then moved, they clearly have different terrains, ecosystems, climates and there's some definitely aliens stuff thrown in, which is what most people are expecting.
>>
>>344899942
they could just want to rape me and make me their sex slave

>There are no alien cities.
how could there be? you ever played in a procedurally generated city? dorrs halfway up the walls or no door at all. shit is unplayable without the ability to destroy the environment.

procedural generation is good for fields with sparse trees, which is why i'm betting this game is going to be bland and boring as shit.
>>
>>344900206
>Then it's safe to assume there's variations of it

What kind of fucked up logic is this? So we have to assume there's more shit than just what's been shown off, and they cannot show off any more due to fear of spoiling, despite there being 18 bazinga-illion planets in the game.
>>
>>344900579
You're acting like they've shown 5 planets in the 4 years of development of their game, I'm just saying it makes sense that they keep some weird stuff out. I mean vidya trailers don't usually spoil the most impressive areas of a game too, what's so different about this one.

it's an empty, no gameplay scam with no multiplayer. there's no goal, it'll be boring within two hours, there's no endgame (if there is one it will be shallow as fuck because of Sony).

even the exploration will be stupid because the level design is just recoloring the same lame environments.
>>
>>344883496
5 billions is a number far too high. The enviromnent eventually will get boring as any planet/stage will be basically the same with only little differencies.
They shouted too high numbers and even if this will be a good game, you'll be disappointed anyway.
>>
>>344900965
>They've shown 5 planets

Actually, that's all they've really shown off. Aside from some of the compilation trailers that gave us images like that one and sneak peaks into the sand worm. Of the gamplay we've seen, we've seen two different green grass planets, one planet that has some water, a snow planet with jack shit on it but an empty base, another snow planet with jack shit again in which the lead dev spaghetti'd himself through an NPC interaction, and I think we saw a desert, but I don't remember that.

So yes, through all this development time this is the most we've fucking seen.

They could take 5 animals, give them 2 colors each, and then randomly generate the two colors from a 256-color palette and claim 115 quattorivigintillion combinations of animals on planets; which is nearly the number of atoms in the visible universe.

Combinatorics to generate large numbers is not impressive.

It's an empty procedurally generated world with no content. The game is backed by Sony because they know a good scam when they see one. It has shallow gameplay due to there being no goal other than exploring the same recolored world over and over. The multiplayer will be boring and the game has no endgame.

>5 billion years
These figures a really unimpressive to be honest. If the total combinations of the apparently "extremely advanced" procedural generation is only enough to keep us entertained for five billion years then taking the nature of factorials into account it would suggest that there aren't actually that many variables and in practice the game will be very unvaried and repetitive despite the occasional minor change. Using the same kind of misleading mathematics we could suggest that dominos have 2.43*10^18 (20!) different pizza topping combinations. Or to put it in the words of no man's sky developers "enough pizza to keep you fed for over 2 quadrillion years" (assuming you eat 2 - 3 pizzas a day). And that's only assuming that dominos only has 20 toppings. With 21 toppings this number jumps to around 50 quadrillion years. once you understand the nature of factorials and how they calculate the "endless" combinations in procedural games you realise just how little noticeable variation there will be.
