>>
>>344859368

It's about not being poor.
>>
>>344859074
That's just how the companies operate.

Nvidia: Optimization and efficiency for current API meaning better performance in GPU lifecycle but bad performance down the line. Driver updates only support the most current series of cards.

AMD: Has the future in mind. While GPUs aren't as optimized or efficient as Nvidia's, they are good enough and get better over time with regular driver updates. Even older cards in the R9 2xx series are getting benefits from new drivers and the Vulkan update.
>>

Tahiti and hawaii will never die. The 7970/280x is what, 4 years old? It is still rocking 1080p. The 290x is nearly 3 years old and is now two entire tiers of performance faster than upon release.

>>344859697
>>
You can't really blame people for buying nvidia. They're just paying more for the performance in the moment.

Sure you could have bought a 290 years ago and still be trucking along with modern cards unlike a 700 series, but everyone who owned a 7*0 has bought a 1080 or a 1070 by now while amd users are still using their ancient cards instead of paying for new ones(btw this is also why amd is going to go bankrupt).

It's like people who prefer to lease a car so they always have the latest and greatest instead of paying for a car and getting several years of use out of it.

My 1080 should arrive later today. Launched DOOM in on an old GTX680 for shits and giggles and it surprisingly runs at 45-55 FPS on ultra settings at 1080p. Of course the framerate drops massively at higher resolutions, but that's to be expected from a 4 year old 2 GB card

It's from Digital Foundry, a notorious Nvidia shill outlet. It was their second bench they had to make because they forgot the set the "hyper" settings on the 970 on their first test and people called them out.

It is most likely AMD set an aggresive voltage curve to get maximum yields. Given polaris has an enormous amount of memory for firmware (256kb iirc) just tweaking the power states to not pull from the pcie is easily done by AMD.

Plus if you tweak voltage down a card is less likely to hit its thermal or power draw limit, thus maintaining high clocks for longer.

Looks like you have no idea about GPU's or actual circuit design in general. You cant just tell it how to draw, not when how its drawing was built into the very foundation of the card. Best they can do is weaken it so it /doesnt/ draw that much.

AMD's poo in the loo has you believing that throttling is good.

Mantle was only backed by amd who didn't have the cash to force devs to use it

If it took off we would have had good performance early on and not have been limited by shitty dx11.

Meanwhile nvidia held everything back and well as the goys. I give the 700 series users a pass since that's when shit was obviously going downhill to the 900 series. But 900+ series cucks are retarded and it's nice to see their hardware age like shit now.

Now with vulkan threatening ms, they made dx12 which also does async compute and will force it being the 400 billion dollar company they are

nvidia is barely worth 10 bil. They can't stop it. It's fucking ogre.

Besides, RANDOM FUCKING DEVS ARE ADDING VULKAN/DX12 AFTER THE GAMES RELEASED LIKE DOOM, WARHAMMER, TOMB RAIDER ETC

PLENTY MORE USE IT IN THE FUTURE

ITS FUCKING OVER. PACK IT UP YOU'RE DONE

AMD cards do like to stutter in DX12 games though.

>The big showdown: Nvidia's GTX 970 versus the AMD R9 390. Again we see AMD's card stuttering to a greater extent, but both turn in a remarkable level of performance at max settings and 1080p, meaning we have to push to 1440p to show any divide.

AMD doesn't need to pay shit.

in case you haven't noticed, AMD made sure that every new API (DX12 and Vulkan) is based on their own Mantle, which means shit will be optimized for AMD cards by default.

there's no reason to buy an nvidia card unless you plan to stay in DX11 forever like those people who still use Windows XP because directx 10 is evil

>DX12
>based on Mantle

>And what of these claims that Microsoft would have copied Mantle? There was even some claim that the documentation was mostly the same, with some screenshots of alleged documentation of both, and alleged similarities. Now that the final documentation is out, it is clear that the two are not all that similar at the API level. DX12 is still using a lightweight COM approach, where Mantle is a flat procedural approach. But most importantly, DX12 has some fundamental differences with Mantle. Such as the distinction between bundles and command lists. Mantle only has ‘command buffers’. Again, it looks like Mantle is just a simplified version, rather than Microsoft cloning Mantle.
