That was probably the worst part of Doom, but it wasn't the worst I have seen overall. The original half life had some REALLY bad platforming, and Turok 1 was even worse.

Calling it Doom 4 would make a little less sense than just calling it DOOM. It doesn't continue from Doom 3 and Doom 3 never continued from Doom 1/2. While DOOM kind of continues from 1/2, I don't think it's a direct continuation and there's a huge difference in style and gameplay from the 3 previous Doom games so using the reboot title of DOOM makes the most sense.

First person is the most natural view point for anything, including platforming. I don't see how anyone has more trouble with this stuff than in games where the camera is out of your control.

The upgrade system and collectibles are much worse.
First person platforming is fine.
First person platforming when your FoV is too small is not fine. Or when your body has a hitbox, and a lot of jumps is missed because your "legs" hit the platform with their scrawny ass invisible bones.

It's called a first person shooter for a reason. Platforming just makes it try to seem like more then what it is.
It's incredibly easy in Doom though.
