It's just that silly thing /v/ does - they hate the userbase of a game, and eventually it spreads out such that they think they hate the game itself.
Anybody who has played Melee within the last year or so knows it's actually a really fucking good game and that it's reputation as the best Smash is well earned. It's just the autists that make people want to hate on it, which is fair enough.

Not that anon, but it's because the skills don't really transfer over from Melee to traditional fighting games (and vice versa). They're way too different to even really be compared, only idiots keep lumping the two together and making comparisons between them. If it were up to me Smash wouldn't even be at events like Evo - you don't put a tomato in a fruit salad even if it IS technically a fruit.
