Writefag here. Should I just exploit women as much as possible in my work in order to make it popular? Seeing as how well Overwatch did compared to Battleborn I'm inclined to believe that's what you have to do to succeed. Even feminists love things lik Overwatch, The Witcher, Kill La Kill, MGS etc.
I don't really like exploiting women, but it feels like it's the only way to get popular with your art.

Overwatch is a fun, sensibly packaged and well-marketed game. Battleborn has a sloppy, student-level art style, has a ridiculous hud and simply isn't fun to play. They couldn't even market the bloody thing properly. Once they started bombing (and bombing hard) they decided it would be a good idea to introduce MICRO-TRANSACTIONS. Gotta bleed dry the only people willing to pay, right?
I really hope Gearbox gets hurt bad by this. Not because I'm disappointed in their game, but because they deserve to take hits like this after what they done to SEGA, Aliens and Duke Nukem. I haven't even played a Nukem game since I was a kid, I'm not a fan of the series at all, but they still sold dog shit under the Nukem name to make profit from diehard fans.

Battleborn's writing isn't unpopular because it isn't 'exploiting women.' It's unpopular because it's ham handed, lolrandumb and lowbrow. There's a one eyed snake character and every single other character in the game keeps commenting on that every single time.
The other thing to keep in mind is that you have to separate your work from your politics. I lean fairly far to the right, but that doesn't mean that all of my stories have to involve it in some way or another. That's why writers like Anthony Burch are so awful. When all you can think about is the Patriarchy and feminism, it limits the scope of your storytelling.

I put 20 hours into it. There was "complexity" to the characters, but the major methods for it were the loot you have to get through single player. That loot is obnoxious to get, and any attempts to balance 26+ characters with that loot in tow becomes insanely more complex than it should be. The list goes on and on.
