Is the PSP worth a buy? What are some of the best exclusives on it? We all know how it failed in the west, yet it was huge in Japan.
>>
>>344788674

Yes, it's definitely worth it. I'd personally recommend the PSP3000 model but at this point all of them are fully crackable as far as I'm aware.

Get some custom firmware on it and emulators for GBA, GBC, NES, etc.

Great PSP games:
God of War games
All the GTA games
MGS: Peace Walker
Wipeout
Tactics Ogre (get the unofficial patches for it)
Disgaea games
LocoRoco
Half-Minute Hero
Persona ports

>Tactics Ogre (get the unofficial patches for it)
what patches?
>>
>>344788674
Honestly go for either the 3000 or the PSPGo, I went with the Go for the portability and shape.

The console is really good if you throw some custom firmware on there, practically every PS1 game works on the console, You can download an eBoot of the game or convert it yourself. Plus its got a strong emulator scene
>>
>>344788674
Wipeout Pulse
Exit
Lumines
Harvest Moon Hero of Leaf Valley
Loco-Roco
Half Minute Hero
Metal Gear Acid 2
Jeanne D'arc
Fate Extra
Mega Man Powered Up
Patapon 1 & 2
Project Diva Extend

Model wise I think the PSP Go is the best overall and most portable but most expensive option. 2000 and 3000 are both good and have less mushy dpads and shoulders than the Phat. Don't even bother with the PSP street or whatever it's called.
All models on all firmwares can have CFW so that doesn't matter. If you get a 3000, 2000, or Phat then you can buy a micro sd to pro duo adaptor that you can put 2 micro sd cards in which is way cheaper than buying a pro duo.

>failed in the west
it did surprisingly well for a not-Nintendo handheld (it'll probably stay the best-selling non-Nintendo handheld game system) and got consistent releases
it didn't make DS numbers, but fucking nothing did

install CFW on it, enjoy
even if you don't download games, there's no reason to actually run them off the UMD drive and it's the work of minutes to dump games yourself

get a microsd to memory stick converter and shove a big-ass 32 or 64gb card in there and go
dunno if it can take 128gb of memory, but 64 should be good

the games I play most on my PSP are
>Ridge Racer 2 (hilariously unrealistic handling, but god damn is it fun)
>Project Diva Extend (also, get PD2nd)
>Crazy Taxi (shit port, but it's portable, it's better on DC or PS2)
>Metal Gear Acid 2 (it's bretty gud)
>Ys Seven (play this shit)
>Wipeout Pure (get the Europe version, there's free (like, officially free) DLC you can find with more ships and tracks that doesn't work on the US/JP versions)

it also makes a pretty good portable PS1, go look for PSX2PSP

>Tactics Ogre (get the unofficial patches for it)
What patche ? What does it do ?
>>
It's cheap as dirt and so's the memory. If you missed out on it it's well worth getting.

It's worth buying simply because emulating. I've been emulating nes, amiga, snes, sega, gba, ps1 games since I bought it.
>>
>failed in the west
Yeah, fuck off. PSP was way better than that piece of fucking garbage shit DS. I seriously fucking hate anyone who fucking bought that fucking piece of shit and gave it so many undeserved sales, when PSP was the better and more powerful console. Seriously, if you even own any DS model, please fucking kill your fucking self.

Reminder that 1000, 2000, and e1000 are trash.
>>
>>344792421

calm down anon, they're both good consoles

idort is the real master race
>>
>>344792421
What if I have both and bought the PSP first ?

PSP 3000 is honestly my favorite handheld since I started emulating and shit with it, here's a pretty good list of games for you OP.

I'd recommend getting a good GBA emulator like gpSP
>>
>>344789368
>>344791307

Fixes the performance and stretching.
>>
n3DS has bested it at being an emulation machine, but the console still has its own library and sweet PS1 emulation.
>>
I got the PSPGO for 30 bucks (sweeter than I ever though it would be), but it had a bad scratch on it. Are the replacement screens they sell on the internet good?
>>
>>344795836
You're thinking of FFT: War of the Lions you dumb faggot.
>>
>>344797145
I don't remember any stretching in FFT though
>>
>>344797258

then your eyes are broken
>>
>>344797297
The screen is amplified, but that doesn't mean in any way that the sprites are stretched to fit the new aspect ratio. I would need images that prove otherwise.

n3ds is cramp central though. I hate the entire family of 3ds devices and wish they'd move on already.

Yes. It has a built in PS1 emulator so I mostly use it to play PS1 games in my bed. I avoid games that use the joystick because it's really uncomfortable for my left thumb.
>>
>>344799268
Outside of getting confortable with the lack of dpad/button symmetry, I feel that the XL is just right.
>>
Do all ps1 games run perfectly on psp? Can you use fastforward on it?
>>
>>344799383
It's workable for when you wanna use the circle pad, but It's incredibly uncomfortable when I gotta use the d-pad for primary movement.
>>
>>344799474

It's emulated but it works surprisingly well.

No.
>>
>>344799474
No and no. But the ammount of games that won't work on PSP is little.
>>
It's also worth mentioning how ridiculous the battery life is after you install CFW and remove the need for UMD. I have a 5+ years old PSP3000 that can last 2-3X the playtime of my 3ds.

Also it's the best handheld ever released for weeb games. Tons of VNs released. Even after I've exhausted most of the good "real" games I can still spend hundred of hours on it playing weeb games and SNES games.

Needless to say a good CFW is a must.
>>
>>344799474
>Do all ps1 games run perfectly on psp?
There's probably like somewhere around 5~8% of ps1 games that can't emulate too well but other than that, most work flawlessly.
>>
>>344800067
>Needless to say a good CFW is a must.
I've been off the beat for a few years now, what would a good CFW be nowadays.
Could google sure but I rather bump.
>>
>>344788674
Anybody got any tutorials/infographics for a retard that just wants to play SNES / GBA games on his PSP?
>>
>>344801414
SNES emulation in PSP is pretty bad

how well does GBA emulation hold up on the psp 1000?
>>
>>344801334

Pro CFW or ME CFW, optionally with Infinity
>>
>>344801642

It's OK.
>>
