Exactly this. Furi is a masterpiece. I fully admit I sucked so much dick at this game. But I kept trying, even though Old Man Time took me at least fifteen tries (serious, not exaggerating.) The dev's choice of having your Rabbit-hooded sidekick say shit like "you can't let that smug old fart win, get back in the fight faggot" was godly. Beating each boss on default difficulty knowing it took you several deaths and you never bitched out and lowered the difficulty was so goddamn satisfying.
The difficulty in Furi is absolutely goddamn perfect, not a single death was bullshit and this is coming from a shitter. It's all about persistence.
I haven't played the game yet, butwhat motivation do they give you not to continue the invasion other than the dude's daughter considering how most of the planet wanted you dead to begin with and your body alone is apparently harmful to the planet?

So close to finishing Furier, but I can't survive the shockwave phase of The Star. The left and right drones can only be damaged by lasers at that point and their blasts are so huge I'm only avoiding them by dumb luck. Any reliable position to go with at that part?

This game is decent and all but it really just feels like the latest overhyped indie darling. Walking sections aside, game has problems. The dash and parry are kinda shitty, which makes the game annoying to play. I'm constantly taking hits I wouldn't take in other action games because the parry has a startup to it which feels very unnatural and counterintuitive to a twitch reflex based game like this. I keep wanting to time parries at the last second because that's how parrying works in literally every other game ever except Dark Souls but I get punished for it. It doesn't really add to the challenge of the game since you are given plenty of time to react regardless, it just makes timing parries really annoying. Same issue with the dash, the invincibility on it doesn't start immediately so trying to time it to get through shockwaves is really annoying. Also, for a game with this much shmup influence, boy do they not understand how to make bullet patterns. From stage 1 they immediately show that they are a western studio that just doesn't understand the shmup genre and it just gets worse. Solid walls of bullets you could never in a million years hope to graze so you have to shoot through the bullets to make a path but then dodge shockwaves at the same time, aimshots that literally home in on you forever until you destroy them instead of just curving towards you until they pass you, it's all doable but when I play a game with shmup elements this is not what I want. I don't feel like the blend of action and shmup is done well here.
Basically the more I played this game the more I wanted to play The Red Star. So I did, I booted that up and had a blast. I mean I can get why people enjoy this game, but the ranting and raving over this game is silly to me. It's a flawed competent game that is designed to annoy you with its awkward game design and unskippable walking cutscenes that I have not seen a single person speak positively on.

My problem with this game is the inability to save and come back later.
Just treat it like a glorified game over / continue if you have to, but even fucking NES games had passwords or button-combinations so you could jump relatively close to where you left off.
I don't have the time to sit and play a 3-5 hour game in one sitting, especially when the actual gameplay length is padded even longer than that since you need to take the time to learn all the timing for parries on like seven different phases of each boss fight and probably die a few times while you're learning.

This is probably a silly question, but did you pirate the game and forget to run it as admin? Pirated games sometimes won't save unless you run it as admin, for example Hatred. However that might apply to the Steam game as well so it's worth a shot testing it out and seeing if it fixes it.

Now I don't want to sound like an asshole, but the incredibly slow, forced walking sections make me think they were put in solely to push people out of refunding the game. no, that's not actually content though. I played through speedrun mode a couple of times, but I got under an hour time relatively quickly, and most of the time to save there is just absolute precision in fights, which, since i've S ranked furi mode, and got an A rank on furier, isn't really much left. it's fun, don't get me wrong, I just don't think I could advocate any recommendation of it for $25. For PS+, yeah, it was great.
Still though, fucking ten fights. Come on. It's barely getting started and then it's over. And what the FUCK was the beat fight, really. That was a god damned joke. You know you can make the bosses cancel those red area attacks where you normally would have to stand on a specific spot in the melee sections. How? Just attack. It's needed for some bosses on Furier anyway, because you have very little time to move into position.

Thing is, the burst gave me problems too with melee, so i was having the same nightmare twice in a row after beating her.
Also i don't think the hand really teaches you to parry, his combos are always the same except for the last phase which is still pretty easy, i learned the timing more than the reflex.
