Is the enhanced edition of SS1 any good? Thinking about playing it, since I just played SS2
>>
>>344679828
Absolutely. The Enhanced Edition is the best way to play SS1. I just played through both games last week and the EE adds a mouselook button, which helps a lot of people get into the game. Although, I changed the keybindings to the original controls since I didn't care for it. That's just me, though.
People will tell you the game aged worse than milk and it's literally unplayable, but they're full of shit. Some parts are a bit rough, but the game holds up fine. Even without mouselook.

Install GMDX

It fixes literally everything bad about the game (it's still really enjoyable without it but there's not reason to play Vanilla when GMDX exist).

Either way you'll probably replay it so go for Vanilla if you want, it's still incredibly good.

I have DE:HR sitting in my backlog since 2013.
Should i give it a go?
I really, really liked E.Y.E., but i literally stopped playing Invisible War after 30 mins.
>>
>>344683559

It's much better than Invisible War.

I love the game to death, but it's possible you don't. It deserves a fair shot at the very least.
>>
>>344683559
HR is very good. One of the rare great games last generation managed to produce.
>>
>>344683559
I understand why people like it but I feel like the last 3rd is rushed, the ending is very lazy, and China level doesn't compare with the originals Hong Kong
>>
>>344683363
I tried that but Paul died. I think GMDX removes his invulnerability?
>>
>>344683559

HR is pretty good

Been playing this. Pretty cyberpunk and a good soundtrack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QliQ0livbeQ

I fucked up and I think the only solution is to take out some loans and hack the in-game crime database
>>
>>344683559
It's okay.
>>
When will I be able to hack software the way real hackers do?
>>
>>344683559

>>

>>
>>344683559
It's a bit casualized compared to og Deus Ex but overall they did a really good job with it.
>>
>>344677374
how is deus ex cyberpunk?
>>
>>344684772
I get you, I actually just played it recently

It's fucking great, the AI is clearly better, the guns feels better and the new skill is fun as hell. And the cherry in top are the new graphics, not a complete overhaul like Revision which was a dissapointment but you can tell they upgraded stuff where it mattered. Also leaining, I swear to god now it can be played like a futuristic Thief.
>>
>>344685041
>distopya
>future
>somewhat noir

How is it not?
>>
>>344683332
I'm not a fan of the HDTP models, but the guns look nice, is there a way to turn off HDTP character models but still have better looking weapons?
>>
>>344685041
How is it not? It has futuristic technology, great socioeconomic distance between the rich and the poor, edgy aesthetics, megacorporations, you name it.
>>
>>344685014
in what way?
>>
>>344685350
I think you can toggle them.

In fact now that I remember you can toggle a bunch of shit now, check it out.
>>
>>344685350
I'm pretty sure you can set individual HDTP character models to either on or off in the in-game menu.
>>
>>344685434
They reduced augs from being a set of toggled buffs to essentially a series of passive upgrades. It's really not that big of a deal, though.
>>
>>344685041
What are you talking about? Deus Ex along with The Matrix were single handedly responsible for making cyber punk a mainstream genre in these mediums.
>>
>>344681507
>>344683332
Please don't play with a very game changing mod your first time. Just think, this is the first time you're playing one of the greatest video games ever created, and you're going to use some fan mod instead of experiencing the normal gameplay the developers designed?

GMDX is great, but use it on a replay. Not for your first experience with this game
>>
>>344685702
but they also make enemies more aggressive.

anyway, there's nothing wrong with "casualizing" things sometimes.
>>
>>344678371
System Shock 2 is ok but the original is a real mans game.
>>
>>344685434
Human Revolution has no melee weapons whatsoever. Knocking people out works like this, go behind them, press a button, and hold it if you want to kill them instead of just putting them to sleep, then you watch a short scene of Adam doing what you requested. Doing that costs energy, yeah 1 unit just to knock a guy out.

They removed skills from the game, it's all augs now, some are passive and some are active. You use any weapons from the get go while in the original you had to specialize.

HR has third person cover, which makes stealth significantly easier since you can see everything from the safety of cover.

There are some other problems, like the bosses being shit, the level design is main entrance then an air vent 2 metres to the side as the "stealth route" and more.

HR wasn't bad but it was nowhere as good as the first Deus Ex.
>>
>>344685304
>>344685382
>>344685809
Where is the punk in it?
>>
>>344686215
The player is the punk
>>
>>344686171
Well the bosses were made by a totally different developer and MD they will be made in house. The bosses in missing link were made by the actual devs and are better I thought.

But yeah, the no melee system still bothers me. Oh well
>>
>>344686215
>corrupt govement
>fuck the stablishment

>>
>>344685448
>>344685480
should I also install this map fix for the GOTY edition along with GMDX, or is it covered?
http://www.dxm.be/navigator.php5?lang=en&content=202
>>
>>344686531
Why don't you just play the game the way the developers intended for your first playthrough? You're going to be constantly wondering what a modder did and what the developers did and won't be able to really appreciate the game design
>>
>>344686531
I'm not sure but considering how extensive it's GMDX, I would not be surprised.
>>
>>344686283
MD still has takedowns, now takedowns can be executed from cover, and some augs, like the one that allows you to knock 4 people out at a distance are retarded.

They say they're listening to feedback of HR, but it sure sounds like they aren't. Or maybe they're listening to youtube comments and whatever forum is full with their nut riders.

How the fuck can you forget about 12 hours of the day? I had more fun playing EYE.
>>
>>344686283
It is not like the original had a good melee either.

Non lethal is about crawling behind blind and deaf enemies and batoning them in the lower back, if you want to continue that when enemies get tougher you switch to prod.

Lethal combat is the same as non lethal until you get Dragontooth and after that is about pushing M1 next to enemies with regen on.
>>
>>344686858
Probably the most autistic complaint I've ever heard
>>
>>344685434
It doesn't necessarily make it casual but there were some very questionable design choices when it comes to rewarding the player with XP. You get more points for non-lethal stealth takedowns. Other playstyles are still viable, but you won't get the same rewards. Same thing with hacking. Even if you find a password, you might as well just play the minigame for the points.

It's not that big of a deal but it still goes against the spirit of the first game.

>>
>>344686858

However I agree it is kinda funny how the entire game it's on the night, and in a realistic way, you travel the whole world from night time to night time.

EYE sucks, I tried to play it once, it had enormous sewers that have absolutely nothing in them for some reason, and I was shooting some enemies that seemed to be respawning here and there. I just got bored and dropped it.
>>
>>344687101

Yes. Both games are set on Earth. One in the 2020's I think, the other in 2070 something.

The sun will still be here for the next 50 years. How the shit does cyberpunk = no sun you dickplatter?

>>344687735

>>
>>344687609
The Hacker in SS1 just looks like some normal fucking dude, but the game is cyberpunk as hell.
You're a fucking moron
>>
>>344687609
Do you think cyberpunk is supposed to be Richard Hell in the fucking future with his cybervest?
>>
>>344688074
Cyberpunk as stated in its names needs atleast
one punk faction/gang/group in the setting, else its
just a dystopian future.
>>
>>344687334
If you listened to people on /v/, you'd think EYE is some type of masterpiece. It's very quirky and unique, but it's clearly a budget title by an inexperienced studio. Besides both being fps/rpg hybrids and having settings that could be described as cyberpunk, EYE isn't much like Deus Ex.
>>
>>344687584
it's not just that, the maps were big and the whole thing boiled down to me vs AI firing at each other from miles away, which wasn't very fun. I also remember the AI having amazing awareness, which made stealth seem non-viable

the whole fighting enemies from far as fuck away who seem to be respawning wasn't very enticing, I really don't get why EYE is compared to Deus Ex
>>

Well, there's the theme of hacking, surveillance and transhumanism, which is present in cyberpunk stories. Also multiple factions.
Also, nighttime.
>>
>>344688841
Hacknet is visually very polished, but theres not much gameplay. its the same old 'run scan/run hack x/run hack y/wait for animation'

Still is a good experience, especially the twist and the ending

The only other interesting level was the warehouse where you can drop explosive or gas crates down onto the NSF

But Liberty Island had so many routes and areas, its too bad there wasn't any ambience, everything was so barren

I mean I guess it could be somewhat like Yume Nikki but even that wouldn't work well enough.
>>
>>344681507
GMDX is a fine mod for a first playthrough, overhauls next to nothing and the major additions feel very organic and don't stand out like a lot of mod content does.
>>
>>344683559
No CUUUHRAZY augs, but that's excusable because they are precursor mechanical augmentations, I love the game personally and the art direction is off the charts, if not a little on the nose
>>
>>344695612
Gmdx does much needed graphical changes and bug fixes, mantling can be turned off. Deus Ex is great but you're a stubborn bastard if you don't believe it can be improved.
>>
>>344696150
Liberty Island is actually a great level in hindsight, but it's really barren and doesn't give you a taste of what's in store for the rest of the game.
