It should be, but the fact remains that Hollywood's greatest weakness has almost always been how it often underestimates the importance of a tight script managed by a good screenwriter with a vision.
Too many execs and producers try to backdoor write whatever coked up vision they had for the project they're heralding, thinking that simply adding "more writers" to the mix will save a script once they've latched their alien elements on. Then, when the bloated mess doesn't work, they'll just blame it on the director, already contracted do do the thing before the script was finished, or the poor screenwriter that had no say in not wanting his already functional script mutilated.
Then, we also have backdoor direction and oddly specific test audiences usually made up of people that wouldn't go see the movie either way force odd cuts and re-shoots, and hack editors brought in to piss all over what has already been edited because "the ending was too sad", or because "my retard nephew didn't understand what the adults were doing" or something like that.
