I'm curious to see if Kojima is able to create something truly innovative. The only thing he ever did for most of his time was Metal Gear and they all share the same simple concept of running & hiding.
In a recent interview he said he wants Death Stranding to be a new kind of genre but it's also gonna be a more action-oriented game. MGSV already felt like generic third-person shooter at some points.

In interviews he kept going on about the "sticks and ropes" stuff, along with the focus on death not as a game over but as a mechanic.
My theory is that when you die, you aren't given a failstate but instead you are transported to another planet/dimension and the only things you take with you are what you "roped" onto yourself.
He also hinted at a Dark Souls style system where the game is mostly single player, but you will interact with other players in a certain way.
