It hurts too much. The abnormal way you got the pictures that fits a more fun Extra Ops schema. The actual hinting to Venom being a body double. All of the details around it that makes it resemble the original promised product the most. The sneaking was awful, though. The level design would have been okay (some of the areas, like the interiors of the base, were even good) had the guards possessed the sight ranges of MGS3's, but as it was they were just too fucking stupid and too slow. I'm sure there was going to be a proper conclusion to... whatever was going on between them. I don't know, maybe something about the unspoken relationship resonates with you, but I'm more frustrated about the cut content in the game. I loved the subtle method of storytelling in the game, and how everything was real-time and presentable instead of implausible codec calls in the middle of fights, but this focus on a different method of storytelling took away from the final game; all that motion acting cost too much money, and they never had the chance to wrap it up. Whereas you're disappointed that the character development never really went anywhere, I'm disappointed that I never got to have the final showdown with Liquid; apparently it's canon that Mission 51 happen.

Even through all the cut content, poor storytelling and badly written characters, I have to say that the presentation of Eli really brought out more thematic relevance to other characters, namely Raiden, which I'm sure Eli's character was more modeled off of. It shows that Raiden, like Solidus, is a perfect balance of Solid/Liquid, except instead of genes, it's his memes. It's one of those things about V that is a really nice touch. Venom, while severely lacking in characterization, is still really powerful and imposing, and is probably my favorite rendition of the "legend" that is Snake. I think it's a real shame how he was just used as a means to an end, the central cog of a giant ruse, when he had the spirit and potential to become a greater hero than Big Boss.

Well, I like a lot of the same movies and music that Kojima likes, and V just feels like the odd piece of the puzzle that doesn't really quite fit, but with every subsequent playthrough of the other games in the series, the edges get more defined. I haven't actually finished the game, I stopped after the Sahelanthropus fight, just because I knew what happens afterward; the game goes out with more of a whimper as opposed to a bang.

I'd definitely emulate MGS1-3, don't even bother trying to get the PC ports to work. MGS4 is the definite resolution of Solid Snake and Big Boss' story, so you'll be left hanging a bit without playing it, but MGSV is alright too, just a little bit lacking in a lot of areas; I look at it more as an old school Metal Gear game, just with really good graphics.
Metal Gear Rising is fucking hardcore, definitely play that one; you might get spoiled on some stuff for MGS4, but it's more or less a resolution of Raiden's story.

MGSV is minimalistic insofar as it relegates the details to tapes. MG1 is minimalistic because there isn't much story at all, and MG2 is more or less the same as the first few games after it--there just isn't as much fluff in the dialogue.
I get what you're saying, but MG2 in particular is a lot closer to MGS1-3 than it is MGSV in terms of narrative presentation and structure.

Exactly this! It´s so infuriating. All those great trailers, playing the games in a row for the first time after practically being able to piece together the story from random tidbits I heard everywhere and of course all gameplay surprises having been spoiled like the revive pill and Psycho Mantis boss. I get hit with maximum levels of hype in the Elegia and Launch trailer and then it becomes a long, outfizzling fart as the gameplay progresses in a steady line until you reach the final boss and then the entire skeleton of act 2 collapses in on itself.
I wish there would be a similar tv show, movie series or anything where I can get a decent story that fits together better to get some sense of finality, MGS4 feels so completely removed from the rest of the series it doesn´t count.

I played on my ps vita and these boss fights didn't feel right because of this. You have to do some weird manipulations in the settings to "change" the controler against Psycho Mantis. I wonder if he says anything about PS1 games when you have downloaded some of them on your ps vita or your ps3, now that I think about it.

I would be totally ok with it ending on MGS2 in some way, it´s just that the universe is so ripe for countless stories but nothing gets made and what was made is for the shitter in everything but gameplay and trailers. MGS would have benefitted from an Anime much more than Zone of the Enders (though I still have to get to that game).
He probably would mention them. I got it for the PS2 so fortuneately the first playthrough was relatively normal. But sadly the game always freezes in the last second of the credits on most PS2s so I will never be able to save the game after it finished to get the postgame item for additional replays. It´s a shame because story-wise MGS1 felt like the best to me with 2 directly after.
I still kind of hope Konami still has a real MGS game in production. I would take anything to have the games going and I am fascinated at the thought of anyone making another MGS game. There really is just no way to take the story further so it could only be worse but then again it´s already so deep in the shitter, how could anyone do worse than 4, V and Peace Walkers stories? Hell, even remakes of MG and MG2 would be great.

Honestly I agree about MGS2, I felt like even if the ending is very open, the story still feels complete. Some of the small references and plot points in MGS3 were enough answers about the Patriots for me, personally. I have to admit that I only saw MGS4 on Youtube but the story really makes the whole thing collapse in on itself, especially the ridicolously long-winded presentation. Half hour mission briefings where literally nothing happens, emotional moments for the sake of emotional moments with no relevance to the bigger picture of the story. It´s only good for the fan service moments which were rather few.
The gameplay seems interesting though with the warzones and mix between classic and modern controlschemes.
I honestly feel starving for some good conspiracy+military story. I even came around to Call of Duty of all things but got no satisfaction out of the three games that I played now.
I find it rather weird. MGS has so many movie influences yet none of those influences are even remotely like MGS except for the visuals.

That kind of shitty dub were everywhere. I got the german MGS1 and the colonel has some kind of slavic accent for no reason. I am amazed though at how much Snake and Otacon sound like the english VAs. But then they fucked up Liquid with the VA doing some over the top snivelling voice as if he is a child pretending to be a troll or goblin on the playground. Some questionable choices of words are there as well like Mei Ling saying Snake is bewitching her (bezirzen) instead of flirting (flirten).

In the French version, Snake has a deeper voice than in English, a bit more like in Japanese. He sounds like he's angry all the time too, so it's hard to take the scene where he's thinking about Meryl or talking to her. Liquid and Mantis are the ones who sound the most like in English, actually. Meryl sounds like she's way older than she really is. I thought she was almost as old as Snake and Otacon but she's supposed to be 18, right? Good luck guessing that.
The worst is really Otacon. You know how there's a specific voice actor in France who voices Jim Carrey and Chandler in Frends? He sounds like a really shitty knock-off of this guy. And sometimes he sounds like he's cut in the middle of a sentence when the sentence actually ends. The translation itself is good though, there are some shitty puns that are actually kind of funny sometimes.
