>"Oddly the thing that I was most surprised about [with the crowdfunding process] is that there are this many people out there that are willing to support a title like this," said Koji Igarashi. "If you think about it it's an old school title, a 2D side scrolling game, IGA-vania game if you will. But there were a ton of supporters that want this sort of gameplay and the reality is there's not a lot of these games out there, not like this at least. Just seeing that support, seeing that there's been years, and years, and years, and people still want to play these games felt great."

>"A lot of the key designs, concept arts, etc, like the overall sandbox of knowing what we need to do to create this game, all that information is pretty much locked in place. So we're heading to the full production, just mass asset creation cycle. I would say what you're seeing here [at E3] represents maybe 10 percent of the full game."

>"On a daily basis I get a lot of different production companies, from movies to manga to anime, that approach me saying that this IP has a lot of potential. And so as any creator out there who has created a new IP ýou really want to expand it and see just how robust you can make it. So I constantly think of trying to partner with those sort of people to try and increase what the world of Bloodstained is."

>Igarashi did confirm that they target is still to release the game in March next year.

If Iga pulls this off, then he will make Inafune look like even more of a fool than he normally is. Both games are made by Inti-Creates plus some extra staff. MN9 was plagued with problems, delays, and ended up a buggy mediocre mess of a game. Bloodstained already looks better, and if they meet their March 2017 release, they will have met release expectations. So why the massive differences in the two projects? The difference would be the peopel in charge.

I hope he follows the Castelvania approach to continuity. Most of the games are stand alone titles, but they fit into a loose larger continuity. Sequels can be made if wanted to. That avoids continuity problems where people jump into a new series and have no clue what's going on.

Hope you guys know that it's Ben Judd (AKA: It's better than nothing Ben Judd) doing the translation.
>>
>>344633478
It most likely doesn't include Reverse Castle since it was just a mirrored map.
>>
>>344633920
The translation of the, what, whole 15 lines of dialogue and storytelling in the game? It's not like Iga is going to make this into some story driven game when absolutely no Castlevania ever had more than a couple scenes with like 10 lines each and that was the MOST dialogue-heavy of the series.
>>
>>344633832
That point being that weebs are fled from all logic and sensibilities? Believe me, that might be the only thing that stands out about the image.
>>
>>344633920
I bet it's full of memes.
They seem to love their old "What is a man?" gags.
>>
>>344633384

Thing is, both Iga and Inafune are businessman. Iga is just a better one, because he follows a KISS approach, and actually knows something about gameplay. Inafune is busy building a new Capcom, and they had 9 ongoing projects in addition to MN9 going on at the same time. Inafune's contribution to the project was just designs, and general storyline. After that he went back to being Comcept CEO and let others make the game.

Iga in contrast is working only on BS and giving it his entire attention. He has experience as a director himself and is working as an on-hand project manager.

BS is being released for far fewer platforms, which makes it much easier. Although, I still think it's too many. WiiU and Vita ports should have been removed.
>>
>>344633920
Oh no not the translation. Surely that will have a big impact on everything else.
>>
>>344633920

Which is a shame. I wish they brought back jeremy Blaustein to do it. Ben Judd is an idiot, and the translation for MN9 was pretty bad.
>>
>>344633241
>and if they meet their March 2017 release
I doubt it, I can't think of a single big name Kickstarted game that actually met it's deadline. Shantae was supposed to be out October 2014
>>
>>344634065
You missed the point of my message.
>>
>>344633767
>That still makes no sense. Less now, even.

Miriam's poses give her a sense of personality. It shows the kind of chick she is. Shanoa was a no nonsense, emotionless fighter. Miriam is clearly based on Shanoa, but she is more cute and "anime".
>>
>>344633920

What Con man said could easily be translated over to that, though, or something similar. It was a very 'yeah, well, we got the game done, and while it's not the 10/10 we hoped for, it's still totally better than not getting Megaman at all, you guys!'
>>
>>344634490

Ben Judd was talking about other kickstarters and how they never get made at all, and then saying MN9 was better than nothing. It's a pretty lame defense.
>>
>>344634181

Iga has proven passion for his games, and didn't like working on trash like castlevania judgement, or being forced to green-light it. He quit because he wasn't allowed to express himself, or make the games that he liked to make.

Inafune quit because money and his status at the company had lowered.

They're not the same kind of people at all. Maybe things change, and Iga turns out to be an even bigger jew, but so far, that hasn't happened.
>>
>>344634635

They had Iga working on mobile games. He felt he had no future at Konami. Looks like he was right, as just a few years later Konami fired everyone.

I don't even think Inafune likes games. He is clearly clueless about what makes a good one. Him saying Angry Birds was Game of the Year one time is really telling.
>>
>>344633478

If you want the next Kickstarter Tortanic, then I got one for you. Comcept couldn't handle a 3DS pirate game, wasted 3.8 million and got it cancelled. They bungled a 2.5D Mega Man clone, taking over three years to make it, with tons of bugs, low FPS, shitty graphics and problems on release. Do you think they could make a full 3D adventure game?
>>
>>344638913

It's hilarious that he films himself as a reference to animators. I wish they would post the rest of them.

inti-creates is not a problem at all. Look at their past work, they know how megaman games work and they should have been able to make a great one.

The problem is sadly Inafune or literally everything that went wrong did. THe former seems more likely. Inafune has lost his touch.
>>
>>344639267

It's a low budget game (relatively) so they can't do mocap. They do all the animations by hand.

>>344639458

The stated reason was:

>but due to sudden changes in the marketplace, and other difficult situations regarding plans they had for its mixed media development, they’ve come to the conclusion that it was for its best to give up on its development.

Whatever that means. It sounds like an excuse. The game's development was going nowhere, and after 4 years the publisher pulled the plug.

Inti-Creates are just a bunch of gurnt workers. All the good games they've made, like MM9-10, had directors and designers from other companies.

> Inafune has lost his touch.

That's not particularly comforting.

I can't remember how long the average Castlevania is though. I think Aria had like 9 main areas (?) including the chaotic realm.
>>
>>344641329
Preproduction, concepting, etc. takes fucking ages

I did AAA dev at Sony and worked on shit like God of War 3, the preproduction was longer than it took to develop the game. And they even had a head start during the final weeks of God of War 2's production (which I wasn't around for)
>>
>>344641610

For posterity, Metroidvania size comparison. A "square" is defined as a single square on the map.

Symphony of the Night: 1,890 squares (both castles)
Portrait of Ruin: 1,846 squares
Harmony of Dissonance: 1348 squares (both sides)
Order of Ecclesia: 1,335 squares
Dawn of Sorrow: 1023 squares
Circle of the Moon: 980 squares
Aria of Sorrow: 928 squares
Super Metroid: 1409 squares
Super Metroid Redesign: 2849.

He's also responsible for a lot of the bad dialogue in Mighty Number 9.
>>
>>344643401

It's Ben "It's better than Nothing" Judd. You know, the last thing someone should say during a launch trailer. It's something he added in and everyone thought it was Inafune saying that. A translator should not be doing that.

People would probably call me a bullshitter but I got some infomation for those who wanted to know a bit more about the *retro* aspect of the game.
I have gained info from IGA himself that Bloodstained will be 2.5D but it will also contain a *RETRO* fitted area in the game (A specific section of the castle) that would turn everything in said area into detailed sprites as if it came from the SNES/PS1/Saturn.

Quite possibly he means like it would be akin to SOTN and any of the GBA/DS titles

This lead to regular work doing narration, computer game character voices, TV and radio commercials, etc. Having a deep, lyric bass voice I tended to get called to do "evil people", big gangster types, pro wrestlers, etc. I have also been cast as a penguin, a whale, and "The Supreme Being". Here's IGA torturing "better than nothing" guy.
>>
>>344656925

Ben "Better than Nothing" Judd is Iga's agent. He's probably Inafune's agent too.

He's the Jew behind the scenes manipulating everything. He is the one who whispered in their ears about Kickstarters.

Forget mobile games, IGA's final straw was being forced to do facilities work at Konami fitness centers. That's basically a step above janitorial duties.

Did they really do that? I thought that was later when they were trying to make everyone quit.

I heard that they did that to devs, but the articles didn't name names.

And so as any creator out there who has created a new IP ýou really want to expand it and see just how robust you can make it. So I constantly think of trying to partner with those sort of people to try and increase what the world of Bloodstained is."

IGA is a programmer. he knows the nitty gritty of game design, so as a producer or director, he knows what to do on his own.

Inafune was always an art man and ideas man and nothing more. he moved up the ranks of the Megaman production chain just because he's been the most consistently present figure in the franchise, specifically, he's been around since the original game was created. So the details of game design or gameplay were usually done by other people and he would ok it and pass the buck along to Capcom. His biggest involvement was in X4 and Legends, where he did the story and direction, and was more involved in that. Even for the Zero series, all he really did was create a few early story elements for Inti, (who were the ones who really approached him) and thats it.

So now that he's 100% on his own, with no Company above him, he doesnt actually know what he's doing, and he thinks just bringing in a bunch of former Megaman people will magically make it work.

He basically has to learn game design from scratch despite having been an industry veteran.

also he stretched MN9 too thin. It's on every console under the sun, and that definitely hurts it, at least visually, and appearances matter. if the game looked better, people might overlook it's problems. But it looks like a PS2 game. X8 looks better. And that only makes its other flaws stand out more.

>So now that he's 100% on his own, with no Company above him, he doesnt actually know what he's doing, and he thinks just bringing in a bunch of former Megaman people will magically make it work.

Thing is, you'd think he'd hire competent people. No one at Inti knew how to use Unreal engine 3. And they'd never done 3D games before as far as I know.

None of the designers or planners had any real experience in 2D platformers at all, and the two directors were literally who nobodies. One of them has ONLY MN9 as his only credit, as his ownly game. And producer Nick Yu is... some other nobody.

The core game was made by nobodies, and some MM veteran artists and composers. So you get a game that plays bad, looks like shit, runs slow, but has some nice designs and music.

Their first games were 3D and they made the Galgun games recently. Though I doubt any of that helped when they had to work with U3.

Everyone keeps saying this. But even looking at the weakest link, the 3DS. The game still looks like complete garbage.

3DS games can look great, but you need an engine like MT Framework mobile (lol Capcom). Not UE3, which can't even work on 3DS.

>But there were a ton of supporters that want this sort of gameplay and the reality is there's not a lot of these games out there, not like this at least. Just seeing that support, seeing that there's been years, and years, and years, and people still want to play these games felt great

i hope no one thinks this is genuine fan service. of course people want games like this and they obviously know that they do. it has not been 'years' since a typical metroidvania game. axiom verge and the metroid 2 remake among the countless indie titles, garbage or not, prove that.

it seems to me that metroid and castlevania fans are flocking to this game to sate their desire for a return their roots. i want this too, and it is certainly looking better than the likes of mn9. but this just doesn't look genuine to me, it feels like there are ulterior motives for this project. perhaps captializing on the attention received for order of ecclesia over the other 2d castlevania titles at the time.

from the demo however this game is looking to be along the lines of aria of sorrow with the 'shard' mechanic and gaining abilities from them. but, i can't say it makes much sense considering that soma was essentially a soul consuming entity being that of dracula. i guess i need to know more before i can say this is really worthy of being called a reboot rather than a sellout.
>>

Iga is using the money to set up a new studio where he'll be CEO. Oh and take a guess who owns the copyright to Miriam and Bloodstained?

He's a businessman. A nice upgrade from a mid-level producer to multi-millionaire CEO.

Psh. No sword no deal. Its not even that good with the whole Item gimmick shit.

To be fair. The story sucked too, MMZ series were much better in setting the mood, setting, character development and all throughout level design that is actually challenging and engaging.
>>
I hope that Bloodstained turns out well. It would be a grand example of fans asking for something, somebody who cares about his profession offering it, fans funding it and everyone getting what they want.

God knows that's what MN9 should have been.
>>
>>344668198
>God knows that's what MN9 should have been.

Fans wanted a Mega Man platformer, they got one. Oh no it's not exactly like what they thought it would, oh no it's not like the concept art. The end of the world!

This is why no one likes gamers. They're so entitled manchildren who are never happy.

Making games is HARD, especially for a new company like Comcept that has 10 projects going on at the same time. Sometimes games are delayed. Get over it.
>>
>>344665063

So what if Iga wants to run an company. like Inafune does? I just happen to trust Iga to handle reaching that goal far more professionally.
>>
>>344668394

I agree. It's better than nothing.
>>
>>344668735

It's a pretty solid game, probably in the top 10 MM games, and a good intro to the series. Obviously MN9 will improve upon all of it. Fans just don't want change. The dash mechanic brings a modern spin on an old formula that was dry and stale years ago.
>>
>>344668394

God forbid people are angry at having to wait 3 years, after multiple delays, just to receive a buggy megaman clone that barely works on most of the consoles it was ported to.

We wanted a Mega Man platformer, not a shitty platformer whose only similarities with MM are Inafune and stealing boss weapons.

The story, setting, gameplay is all very Mega man. As is the level design. Only difference is the dash mechanic.

Sure anon, I guess those three delays were also part of the "standard dev cycle" too?

>The story, setting, gameplay is all very Mega man. As is the level design. Only difference is the dash mechanic.

The surface elements of MN9 are reminiscent of Megaman but everything else isn't.

We have not!Megaman who fights eight not!Robot Masters sure, but the issue with MN9 is that it tries to combine the mobility of MMX with the platforming segments of MMC, which is an issue when you can skip levels like MN2's stage with liberal uses of the infinite air dashes or just spam the missile because Inafune didn't balance around how easily you can refill your weapon energy.

That and the fact that you only need like 2 sub-weapons to win the game.
>>
>>344669949

How else do you think animations are done? They're eitehr done by mocap or by hand. And if by hand, do you want Iga to send them a long description of what he wants? No, just show them what you want. It's so much better.
>>
>>344670012
eh no. Silent 2 and 3 were mocapped, with the mocap animation edited by hand
>>
>>344670310
>because Inafune didn't balance

Inafune didn't make the game. At most he walked into Inti-Creates offices every few months and played a dev build and went home. Watch the documentary, it has the sense of strangers meeting for the first time.
