Which console had the best graphics?

ps1 when it was done right

almost every game on n64 looks like muddy ass

The Ps4. But it seems the new xbox may have better graphics

I deeply love the N64 but i can admit that 99% of the time games were dark, blurry, muddy messes graphics wise.

Some games made it work but they were rare.
>>
Playstation was technically deficient, 64 was hurt by limited storage capacity. Both were shit.
>>
PS1 games had better art but N64 games looked better overall. Played better too.

N64, all the textures were smooth and all the models/meshes were clear and concise
>>

this but the other way around
>>
>>344609952
PS1 games always looked like you were looking at them underwater with all that wobble
>>
>>344609952
The PS1, because it had 2D games

What does it matter which console had better 3D graphics, when all 5th gen 3D games were objectively awful, nausea inducing nightmare fuel. All of them, from Bubsy to Fear Effect.
>>
>>344610284
>Some games made it work but they were rare.
>rare
iswydt
>>
PS1's graphics actually benefited from the lack of texture filtering in the long run.

Truth be told, they should have held off on the technology until the 7th gen. Granulated pixellation > blurry vomit soup.
>>
N64 is blurry garbage, and PS1 can be wobbly garbage but at least I know what the fuck I'm looking at with the PS1.
>>
>>344612474
>there are N64 mods now that turn off the blur

>wobbly garbage
How to tell if someone is judging it based on emulation garbage blown up to fit 1920x1080.
>>
They both had their ups and downs with 3D graphics but I think the PS1 had more downs/N64 had more ups. The wobbly models kind of kill some games and even though the N64 had lots of blur the aliasing on PS1 games is kind of unbearable.

N64 multiplats also sometimes ran better, though they'd be missing features because of the cartridge limitations.

>>344613060
Not him but I've played a few games on the PS1, on the actual system, MGS1 being the one I've played the most, and they had the wobbly models. It might not affect every game but it affects a lot of them.
>>
>>344613060
I'm thinking of the last game I played on the ps3 thru their emulator (i guess?) so yeah sure why not
>>
>>344613229
>wobbly models
>models
That's not how affine texture mapping works, friend.
>>
>>344613229
I know PS1 technically had wobbling and weirdly bent planes, but they're not major issues unless someone is emulating them at too high of a resolution. It's unfortunate no one is going to judge it fairly knowing it's not as severe at native resolution on a CRT.
>>
>>344610642
what the fuck? what fucking game is this?
>>
>>344614127
FUCK!
>>
>>344609952
Both were early 3D machines, and both had flaws up their arse.

Both had worse graphics.
>>
>>344610136
That is LITERALLY objectively wrong. I'm not even memeing, the PS1 textures were so fucking low res. What the fuck? How do people not fucking understand this like this.
>>
>>344613728
From what I understand it's from vertexes being solid numbers causing issues. Though I have seen the issue on flat surfaces so maybe it is something else.

>>344613752
What difference does playing on a CRT make? I hear people say this a lot but it seems like it's just making the game less clear overall. It does kind of help with the problem as you can't see it as well but the problem is still there.

I actually don't think I've ever emulated a PS1 game but I do know that the emulated version of MGS1 looks so much worse than the PC version. They actually more or less fixed the wobbliness in it. Shame it has other issues.

Super Mario 64. You have to get all 120 star's and then talk to yoshi and finally find toad. Then the map changes

N64 because it was 64 bit and PS1 was only 32 bit.

N64 was more powerful, there's no doubting that.

However PS1 had the upperhand in using CDs which allowed developers to use higher resolution textures, and better music/sound quality.

This, wobbly polygons was the worst part of the PS1.

I used to think the PS1 because I liked that style better and the fact it had better video/cinematics, but looking back I think the N64 had better graphics, the problem was that muddy filter. Playing Mario 64 on the wiiU currently and it doesn't have the vaseline smeared on the screen. It looks pretty nice!

>>
>>344615815

well left is clearly better here, sharper textures and superior draw distance
>>
>>344615815
left looks too jaggy and the colors looked a bit washed out too.
>>
>>344615815

Reminder that this pic is cherry picked and misleading, the buildings on the N64 screen were destroyed in-game (in one of the boss battles) so it looks emptier on purpose.
The N64 version of MML does have slight worse draw distance though, but the PS1 version also has draw distance issues anyway. The N64 port fixed many of the weird camera glitches and wall clipping though.
The best version is the PC one though, it uses the N64 game as base but with higher res textures. and yet Capcom still fucked it up with audio synch issues on cutscenes

N64.

It's not even fair though, N64 had 2 years of development advantage, when it came out it was more powerful than consumer PCs until the first 3dfx voodoo graphics card came out in late 96.

It all depends on the developer and the game

Crash looks better than most games of that time. but because they didnt go for an open world/level design, they kept it focused which allowed them to put alot of detail into the level design, and character model

Hands down the N64 had better graphics. Unfortunately it didn't have the PSX's developer support, and the cartridges ended up being a major handicap for game design. The N64 was unfortuantely somewhat notorious for having bad developer kits that made game development more difficult than it should have been, while the PSX had such a solid developer kit that they even sold a consumer version for schools, universities and hobbyists (the Net Yaroze).
>>
>>344613728

But that is how vertex calculations on a platform without floats works, dumbass.
