As a fellow jaded cynic I don't understand why most of you don't see the fun in the idea of slowly whittling down these robot creatures, finding their weak spots and shit.
It seems out of the ordinary in that it doesn't seem brain dead, looking at the demo of the robot t-rex or the robot crab things, each enemy is really intimate and has a method or a couple methods that you have learn to take them down.
If there are a lot of unique robot enemies with multiple strategies to kill them then that's some solid game play in my book.
We'll see, I'm leaning towards this taking a lot of people by surprise.

What are you even meant to do in this game?
Is it trying to be some kind of actiony Shadow of the Colossus but with less impressive colossi and more explosions?
Are you going to ride to a village only to have them tell you to take down a specific robot in the wilds, after which you proceed to the next village only to have them tell you to take down another robot?
Until you have the fight the super robot computer near the end before or right after uncovering the plot twist behind the robots?
Is it all going to be on rails?
Will there be interesting stages like ruins, huge indoor environments, or dungeons of any kind?
Will the game have anything to challenge you with beyond fighting huge robots?
And will the towns grow alongside the progress you're making in game?
I do indeed really like what I have seen of the little gameplay we have of the game so far. And I have a huge fetish for robots so robot dinosaurs is right down my alley. I am however somewhat worried that the game will just be too on rails for its own good and I am afraid that the game will ultimately not be much other than
village -> robot -> village -> robot -> village -> robot
with repeated environments and situations that feel the same. That's probably my biggest concern when it comes to this game and I feel like I'd really need to see more of the game beyond of what we've seen in order to be able to put that concern to rest.
Perhaps they just haven't gotten far enough in development to show anything, or perhaps they just aren't confident in any other aspect of the game or at the very least as of now. But the fact that the playable demo at e3 was basically just you walking in a more or less straight line with the staff breathing down your neck making sure you experienced everything correctly and didn't stray from anything, leaves me worried indeed.
Do you think it'll prove itself? Are my worries unfounded? It's a game with robot dinosaurs everywhere. I really want the game to be great.

As of yet no SOTC style gameplay has been shown. You're only saying that because there's a few giant enemies.
They have refused to elaborate on the story past what we've seen from the trailers but so far what they've showed is you're going around searching for some truth about how the predecessors (us) all died and taking minor missions as you go along. Standard fare. It's not on rails. It's an RPG with crafting and different outfits and weapons with stats. Most games don't have anything else to challenge you aside from fighting enemies. Everything else remains to be seen.

I mean, I think it looks good, if not great, even. But the mainstream press seems to be losing their shit over it when it just looks like a breath of fresh air, if also still very familiar, since it looks like a whole lot of other Western AAA games these days. But it doesn't look THAT good either. Calm the fuck down, people. I think at best it's going to be a somewhat refreshing, interesting game that might be notable for at least trying to be different but not something you'd like to play more than once or twice.
