I give it a month before everyone loses interest

Nah, this needs to translate into bonafide longterm interest.

In this ADHD-addled world where people burn through internet fads in a fucking day? It's a long shot.

If the momentum carries to the Sun/Moon launch and it gives the 3DS a real kick in its autumn years, then yes.
>>
>>344582267
No, normies will complain and stop playing it when they go past Gen 2

More like death of the Nintendo we know. If nintendo makes enough money with this shit they might drop out of the handheld business.

I can guarantee they've made enough money this week alone to shit all over most handheld releases see their entire lifespan.

#1 Top Grossing on the app store is absolute shit tons of money. Given it's Nintendo, they probably aren't spending anywhere near as much on marketing it like Game of War and Clash of Clans has to. Pokemon sells itself.

Even if GO is a fad that will eventually die out, it'll turn heads upstairs for sure as to why they'd even need anything but mobile releases.

>>
>>344582267

I find the success of Pokemon GO very amusing. ANYONE that plays that game and is enjoying it owes other companies like Konami and Capcom an apology if they gave them shit for focusing on mobile. It is the same damn thing.

But it's ok when Nintendo does it!

>>

>Nah, this needs to translate into bonafide longterm interest.

Oh, it will, I guarantee it.

Ingress has one of the most die-hard, rabid fanbases of any game I know, ever.

And Ingress doesn't have the brand recognition that Pokemon has, OR the "Breadcrumb" play style that PoGo has.

There will be the inevitable slight dropoff as people begin to realize their area is sub-optimal for playing, but for anyone who lives in even a slightly populated area, this shit's gonna be huge.
>>
>>344586148

Nintendo has released a few mobile apps already. Many companies utilize 3rd parties for their mobile apps.

Doesn't change my original point.

it's all over :(

Not really. It's going to drop off much quicker than the original craze did. Especially since there's literally nothing to do in Pokemon Go. You can't trade, you can't battle, you can't even catch Pokemon outside of Gen Wunners

It's literally Miitomo 2.

A few more weeks and nobody will give a shit anymore.

When will Nintendo realise that the casual market is volatile and too competitive for them, and a core focus is what they really need?
>>
>>344589303

Even with the volatility, you'll make more money in 1 week catering to casual players than several months from 'core' players.
>>
>>344589303
>too competitive

They can literally slap 'pokemon' on any game type and win.
>>
>>344589303

If it makes a SHIT TON of money, does it matter that it dies in a few weeks? Maybe it will last longer than that, since it has become a huge hit.
>>
>>344589504

This is /v/ not /biz/. I don't care what is best for them financially, I care what is best for video games.
>>
>>344589639
>caring about what's best for video games
That's not even /v/ anon
>>
>>344589639

Me too, but Nintendo isn't going to suddenly 'realize' they could make less money for more effort.
>>
>>344585540
Except that Nintendo hasn't completely abandoned the rest of the video game market to focus on mobile, and a new, regular Pokemon game is already coming out this year.
>>
>>344589303
I disagree.
Miitomo's main problem (Besides the fact that it wasn't even really a game) was it lacked the "breadcrumb" factor that 99.9% of all massively successful mobile games have. Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, all that shit, they have daily incentives and long-ass timers on shit specifically because it keeps you checking in on the game every so often. There's always something to do and something new to discover.
That's what MiiTomo lacked. There was never anything new to do, not really. And the game had, like, three separate forms of currency, and everything subtracted something, so you always felt oppressed with anything you did.

Pokemon is the exact opposite. There's always a reason to log in, and there's always something to do, or at least the POTENTIAL for something to do when you log in. You always feel compelled to open the app in new places and under new circumstances, because maybe this time I'll get that super rare, powerful pokemon.
Also, there's only one form of in-game currency, and it is, for the most part, easy and possible to completely bypass it. You don't hit that "wall" that a lot of other mobile games have, where it stops being worth it UNLESS you spend cash.
There's always something to do, and it's always worth your while, regardless of how much time or money you've spent or will spend on the game. It's all carrot, no stick. It's actually really great, as far as mobile game design goes.
>>
>>344590157

Yet.
>>
>>344585540
It's terrible for gaming, but we can no longer deny that it works like an Irish father of 12.
>>
>>344585540
There IS a difference though.

Like, when Capcom made a mobile game, it was basically just a console game with microtransactions.

Pokemon Go is the kind of game that literally could not work on any other platform.

Nobody's begrudging anybody for making games ON phones (except for the people who are, but fuck those guys), we're begrudging companies who half-ass it.
>>
>>344587915
Look at the numale faggot.
>>
They should push for more Pokemon Porn
>>
>>344588236
Storms are fucking cool.
>>
>>344590316
Miitomo is a social app that requires you to actually have fucking friends before you even start playing. There's no way to find friends unless link your Facebook and Twitter

The only way you're going to add someone to Miitomo otherwise is through Face-to-Face or sending a weird one-time-only link through another app.

a social app that needs you to have friends already that likely already know most of the stupid shit Miitomo will ask you gg great design

Pokémon Go is just Ingress 2.0 and it'll have its niche of players just like the main games.
