I dont like it as much as that other guy
builds are okay but it just seems like theres not enough choice even though theres plenty
idk its not bad but, and i might just be bias here, i enjoy PoE a lot more.
I suppose the way you build a character is quite different but i just enjoy having an economy in PoE and really feeling like your character is ramping up

maybe i just need to play more Grim Dawn.
idk

Winter is coming. I'm making more trips into town for canned goods. I just returned today. I killed 400 zombies and spent 3 nights in the city.

I carried heavy food and weapon supplies so I didn't have space for planks and nails to fortify a forward outpost. The days were an endless stream of zombies and my fireaxe/machete combo for distance and close range combat dropped 400+. Over and over again culling groups of 10-15 that they tend to clump into. 15 zombies shambling after you is a really dicey situation. But in the city it's worse. There's another 15 just out of sight on every corner, in every house. I was taking a suburb road to clear it and killed one zombie with my machete. It's a great tool. If you time it right, just when the zombie attacks you, you can counter attack and drive it into its skull killing it in one hit. I dropped that zombie and no less than 45 came rushing out of the 3 surrounding houses. I have the brave trait so I don't have to deal with popping beta blockers to keep my panic down but even that wasn't enough that time.

The nights were worse. There is no way to deal with the hundreds of nearby zombies during an incursion into the city. If it were near my base on the outskirts killing 20 or even 50 would be achievable but in the city if you kill 50 there will just be 50 more to take their place. So nights meant trying to carefully clear out a house and ignore the back yard, or front yard, or side yard, or anywhere I didn't have to enter from. Just kill as many as are in the house, draw the blinds, head upstairs, and close all the doors and windows I can. Then build a sheet rope latter so I can escape to the street in case they find me.

Three nights I spent like that. Hoping I didn't wake up to the sound of pounding. If I heard that I'd likely already be dead. A single bite can infect you and there is no cure. So 50 or 100 or 400 doesn't really matter when you're asleep. All it takes is one bite.

The only good news is I found plenty of foodstuffs, both canned and processed foods, and while I was there I put on a whopping 15kg. I don't think the nutrition system is very accurate yet but that's alright, I'll take 15kg in four days.

The problem with nutrition is nothing farmable has a high calorie or fat count. Broccoli and cabbage will keep your hunger moodlet from killing you, but you'll lose weight. I want to be at 100kg the day the first snow comes. If I can hover where I am then I will be in good shape. I ate lean all through September to see what my weight loss would be like with low fat foods. It was relatively slow, maybe 0.5 kg a day.

30kg is the danger number. If you hit 30 you will die. 60 is anorexic and 105 is obese. So I'm definitely slower at 99 kg and it makes combat harder, but I live far out of town and spend most of my time foraging or creating new carpentry constructions. I put these crosses up recently. You're supposed to be able to hang up bodies on them like crucifixions for the undead but I haven't yet figured out how.

3 nights and 4 days in the city. I'm gonna spend some time over October fortifying the outward homes so I have safer places to sleep and basecamp in. It takes 2 hours to run from my home to the outskirts, and by the time I do that I'm fairly winded which leaves little energy left to hunt zombies. Which means resting. Which means more time spent near the city, and away from my base where zombies could roam into and start destroying my winter stores.

All and all it was a good time. Now I have to do some dull shit like pull up all the grass that is taking over and collect all the twigs and branches from the bushes I've cleared on my property

I'll keep the fire going. I use corpses to fuel it.

>>344516117
Project Zomboid is a really under appreciated game, but it also is a very niche game. Its more like "A slice of life after the end times" than NAZI ZOMBIES MUST DIE

They're ok. Easy but still fun.
>>
>>344516534
It's real time. The current MUST HAVE HUGE ULTIMATE MODPACK is Hydrocraft, which adds about as much content as the base game has.

It's been in Early Access since 2011 and pre-dates the DayZ early access craze that's become the norm.

Probably about 2 years ago the game reached what was their goal for the game, but sales kept coming in so development continues and it stays in early access. They do a lot of cool stuff and overhaul a lot of core systems to improve them far past what the original scope was. Which is cool but also somewhat worrying. The part I love about this game is it really is a real life accurate small town in Kentucky, with thousands and thousands of zombies. The better the graphics look, the more power it will take to render them on screen. I'll take 500 ugly zombies over 5 1440p zombies.

This is the latest dev blog for the upcoming newest alpha. They're switching over from flatter, simpler models for objects to 3D ones and adding a large amount of new animations. The video will show you what the game looks like (or will in a couple months).

Obviously it won't show the day to day routine of checking your crops, watering them, composting, fishing, foraging, patrolling your fence for any stragglers, or surviving on the roof top of some building in the city surrounded by zombies. But there's probably a thousand hours of that on youtube if you're interested.

Oh and the main (and only semi-official) multiplayer server just reset so that's nice. Take everything I just talked about, then add other players who are perfectly welcome to shoot your ass ded if they feel like it. And you're all competing for the same resources. Less zombies since there's more than just you killing them, but humans are far more dangerous. And supplies are limited.

It's a pretty fun game. I finally figured out how to attack a corpse to a scarecrow stand. Shame there's no crows, and if there were I'd want to attract them so I could trap them and eat them anyway.

It's a good game. I wouldn't build a PC for it but I'm glad it exists. It's like Harvest Moon + zeds.

They do make it feel like home instead of a house.

Stardew, (now stalker), and PZ all share one thing in common. Low system requirements.

PZ really is a quiet, methodical kind of game when you git gud at it. In the time we've talked I've done nothing but sort through some of the piles of junk I've dropped on the ground in a rush to do something else more important than catalogue the random shit I've looted from houses. Most of the time I spent thinking about whether to move closer to the city (which would involve hauling about 500kg of junk to a new place, plus building a new fence which would require lumber and there isn't exactly a forest on the outskirts of the city so I'll have to cut lumber then haul lumber then cut boards then build walls/fences..)

Like I said it's a slice of life kinda game. It has a nice dual nature though. You can live this quiet life off in the woods where you only see a zombie once in a few days, or maybe a lot of zombies if there's gun shots or helicopters to rile them up and draw them over to you. Then you run for no more than 5 real time minutes and you're in the suburbs outside the city and you're surrounded by thousands of zeds that will kill you with a single bite.
