How long should I practice against AI in overwatch before moving to PvP? I've been playing about four hours a day over the past month in training against AI learning each charcter's strengths and weaknesses but am afraid as soon as I go PvP a bunch of teenage guys and girls will scream into their mic about how I am unskilled and don't know the maps like the back of my hand etc... what do I do?

Jesus Christ what the fuck are you doing? I played for maybe an hour against the A.I. just until I got to grips with the game and then jumped straight into PvP. Real players are nothing like the A.I, so you're gonna have a shock regardless.
You stagnate with V.R. training. You need to get out there in the field.

I dont actually play OW but that seems... excessive. If I ever did start playing it I would probably just practice one character<3pharah<3for a couple of hours against AIs to get a feel for that character and the maps and then hop online

Sorry, but the AI on hardest difficulty is nothing like real players.
I would say that you just go ahead and jump in quickplay. If anyone gets mad at you, ignore them. remember it's just a game, plus trying hard is for competitive anyways.
If you wan't advice on getting good, I would suggest learning how each characters plays, so you understand their weaknesses/roles. You don't have to spend more than 2 minutes each in training to get the idea.
Also watch other players on youtube, and enemy players you fight against that are good. I learned how to git gud just by copying what other players did when I got wrecked by them earlier.

I play on PS4, but I've played on the PC as well.
You don't see nearly as much salt on consoles, simply because there's no typed chat function. Meaning autismos who either don't have mics or don't want their broken, sad voices heard don't shittalk at any frequent pace.
Every game I played on PC ended with either on-mic screaming, typed insults or 20 lines of "ggez" shittalk.
PC crowds are infinitely more cancerous in every experience.
