I've only played the first.
It was pretty boring.
Yeah, a lot of fun walking around trying all the doors just to discover that the world is largely linear, and then they just fucking teleport you after each later main story event anyway.
Whatever. People insist the combat isn't the point but that's like 98% of what you do in that game and it just wasn't any fun. Nice sound design, I guess.

The original trilogy is one of the best horror game trilogies.
4 was okay, but was way too different in bad ways.
Origins was the closest a non-JP dev got to making a game that felt like the old trilogy, but still felt like something was missing. Also destructible weapons sucks.
Homecoming was basically the american Silent Hill movie game with Hostel sprinkled on top. Not great.
Shattered Memories was kinda interesting, but more just SH1 fanfiction written by the guy that wrote Her Story.
Downpour was awful. Straight awful.
And now it's dead cause Konami don't want to release video games internationally anymore. RIP.

Everything before Homecoming is worth playing as far as I can tell. Haven't played Homecoming or Downpour but Shattered Memories is alright for what it is I guess and I would've tried the demo for Book of Memories by now if I had any desire to play it at all.
