What the fuck is with all of the Deus Ex shilling lately, holy shit. Is it just one autist who bought the collection and wants /v/ to make him feel vindicated or are those french canadian faggots kicking the marketing into overdrive to make sure more than 10 people buy the new one next month?

Vidya is literally the only medium where it's justified to dislike something on account of it being dated, since the enjoyment of it is intrinsically reliant on one's tolerance of the mechanics.

All of them end up paying off except for medicine. You won't really use medkits as soon as you get the regeneration augment

I'd dump a level in computers on character creation and another later on when you're done with your weapons of choice. You can also level lockpicking or electronics at your pace, since generally one will cover for the other (gotta note that a good number of locked doors can be blown up with explosives)

deus ex has working laser pointers which guides projectiles exactly down that sight with and without headbob.

modern games dont do that. look at planetside 2 for example. terrible laserpointer mechanics.

player controls are top teir in deus ex, and the map is made to be traversed by running, jumping, strafing, swimming, corner-peeking, and sneaking.

the graphics are far from dated as they are 1000% lag free and blends the gameplay, the story and the world all into one unquestionable experience.

Modern video games do not allow for this. Just look at planetside 2 for example. You can fucking fall through the world and have trees not even load until you crash a plane into them.

role playing is not a genre
all video games are role playing games.
Take planetside 2 for example: IRL I am not a factionist terran republican who uses guns to remove the things I do not like. It's a make believe role I am playing out in cyberspace with the tools of my mouse, keyboard and computer. Role playing is not a genre it is a state of mind.

Shooter is a genre. It is defining of the gameplay, which is by and large looking down the sights of a GEP gun.

>>344470825
Well they are. You're not any of those fictional characters you play as under any circumstances. It is not you on that screen no matter how hard you try to convince yourself you're in that video game. It's not your skin being shot up and it's not your ego that is being damaged by traumatic video game events.

All video games by design are role playing games.

"RPG" is code phrase for cashcow, money mistake, time sink, bait.

They aren't video games if it's genre assignment is "role playing" Those software packages are simple solutions for parents who need a day care or a baby sitter but don't trust their neighborhoods. They're not games. They're visual novels if that.

RTS is a genre
Shooter is a genre
FPS is a genre
Strategy is a genre

Role playing is not a genre
Arcade is not a genre

Role playing is a state of mind
Arcade is a physical representation of that state of mind that you can go to for businesses to make money off you.
Arcades don't really exist here anymore but Mobile has taken over that assignment.

Mobile is not a genre.

Anybody who judges whether or not a game has "aged well" or is "dated" is a fucking retard, whose opinion should outright be ignored by everybody.

It'd be like somebody saying, "Well Shakespear hasn't aged well because it isn't even written in modern English, the words from Olde english just sound crude compared with the elegance of updated language, and their definitions don't even hold up."
>>
>>344468762

You should also try out Aliens vs Predator 2, it is pretty good.

Though sadly you'll never get the full enjoyment of it, because the multiplayer experience was fucking phenomenal.

I think you're just being autistic
>>
>>344472760
Actually, Shakespeare is technically modern English (early modern English, but it still counts)
>>
>>344472106
The general qualities that make up games such as TES, all JRPGs, Deus Ex, Witcher etc. etc collectively form the genre that is RPGs ie: not strictly shooting (like an fps) not strictly resource management/base and army building (like rts) racing vehicles (like racing games) etc.
RPGs generally put you into the role of a certain unique character where you the player can determine what role the character plays in the game and differing actions they can make while having character skill progression- which shows development in a certain role you choose.
There, faggot, I tried to give a nice thorough explanation of what an RPG is. Can you seriously say that Deus Ex is a shooter if I can simply not shoot people?

Shooter and FPS is about focal points, not necessarily what you chose to accomplish in-game goals. Using the binoculars is a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER aspect. You're shooting a glance at where you enemies be.

>>
>>344473802
>I have a question by the way, can I not loot gibbed bodies?

No, you have to use the stun prod/ gas grenades/ pepper spray to prevent specific enemies from exploding then you can loot them.

Deus Ex is a first person RPG.

>excelent level design, a good artstyle
These are two of the worst features of Deus Ex though. The buildings and layout of areas make absolutely no architectural sense. They're fun to play through, I guess, but there's no attempt at all to make the areas feel like real places or fit things together in a sensible way. The worst example is probably the fucking winding corridors at the entrance to every building in some ghastly attempt to mask loading times. In terms of maps, holy fucking Christ just look at Hell's kitchen. The whole game, except maybe a few areas like Hong Kong, looks like a first time effort using some game map design software.

The artstyle is just irredeemably shit. It looked bad when it came out and it looks bad now.
