It was a dark and dreadful place full of gloom and bloom and Call of Duty. Lots of Mature games for Mature individuals, curse words, and being as gory edgy and hardcore as possible.
Then Neptunia came along. It added tons of colors, cute girls, funny narratives, and silliness that was completely lacking in video games at the time.
Neptunia saved video games.

2006 - 2009 was kind of a weird time. Most everything was a sequel with some kind of stupid gimmick added to it or completely revamped gameplay but there were some quality games that came out around then. Tekken 5 DR, SF3 Alpha Max, Megaman x Collection, God Hand are just a few of the good ones. I spent most of that time playing Guild wars because fucking Guild Wars factions was a god tier expansion.

In a Neptunia thread? Yes. It had a purpose, and was revolutionary for strategy JRPGs. It helped pave the way for JRPGs on the PS2, and helped end the massive drought the console was suffering from at the time.
Back then, most videogame releases occurred from Nov-Dec. The rest of the year was bare. This came out so late, that it had a summer release.
