All I could find. I guess this method is pretty forgotten by now, this guide says to unlock the drive another way. I'm pretty sure installing music from a CD on to the harddrive will cause it to be unlocked for a while afterwards.

I got my MWC ISO from Isozone, burned it to a Verbatim DVD-R, worked great. Once I upgraded the HDD I stopped using discs, so it works even better. That'd be my advice, sounds like you might have gotten a bad rip, disc, or something didn't burn right.
Alternatively you might have a Thompson DVD drive which break and barely fucking work as is, let alone burned games.

The glue under there is pretty old, but nothing bad. Grab something you can slip right under there to pull it up. It might be a little scary pulling up the feet initially but you'll get the feel for it and they won't snap in half if you take very slight care.

Hasn't happened to me. I was fortunate enough that on both of my Xboxes the capacitors hadn't started leaking yet. If you go in with the knowledge like I did, it's not much an issue. The mobo either works or it doesn't, if it does you can clean some of the stains up and tear the capacitor right out. No more damage.
The downfall of my first Xbox was the almost-literally exploding PSU, not the capacitor.
I'm sure the cap issue fucked over many in the day and that really sucks, MS sucks at hardware but nowadays it's a known and basically solved problem.

Almost. PS2 480p and Xbox 480p ARE the same resolution. However the video signal being produced by your console is different. I don't know the nitty gritty technicals of why, but it's generally agreed the PS2 just outputs inferior video quality. It's nothing that extreme, but I actually got a CRT just for it last year because it looked so wrong.
My best guess is that Xbox being stronger hardware (by a pretty large margin, actually, sans exploding PSU and cap leaks) can just push out a better, cleaner 480p signal than the PS2 can.
It's worth noting that softmodding a PS2 to run games in 480p almost never results in a performance drop.
There's documentation out there about how the different Genesis models had a shitton of different video chips. Even composite wasn't created equal back then. Obviously for any console the best cables (RGB/Component in most cases) is an upgrade but consoles just put out different signals for whatever reason.

I think your video looks bretty good, YouTube compression might have hit it just slightly. Is your Xbox running in 16:9? The picture looks slightly stretched, which it will do even for 480p games which it really shouldn't be out of 4:3. I keep my Xbox in 4:3 for that reason.
