Got into gaming, always wanted to play silent hill, got myself a ps3 and a humble laptop, heard so much shit about the ps3 hd collection, 3 grown ass men made like 2 hours videos bashing it and they convinced me that it's not the ultimate experience, should i play it on the pc or get a ps2? any other reccomendations
You should pick up a PS2 anyway, cheap as shit and loads of great games
You can play PS1 games on the PS3 and by an absolute mile that's the best one.

While playing the PS2 originals is the true and "authentic" way, there's really no reason to NOT play them all on PC, as legit PC ports of 2-4 were made back in the days, and the #1 is easy to emulate / can be bought from PSN Store for few bucks.

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all other games too.
The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78; (more options & better performance than 2.x version)
-Eternal's SPU Engine.
alternatively just use a software renderer for very 1:1 PS1-like graphics, including 240p only.
...OR just buy the game from PSN Store for few bucks.
Now, I'd recommend playing in the release order (duh!), never below the Normal difficulties. Always adjust down the in-game Brightness level too. Don't try to kill everything you see, especially if there's lots of space to just run / if you can turn off the flashlight and sneak past foes. Replaying each of the games is also recommended, thanks to multiple endings, unlockables, and just details people tend to miss on first run.
