It's incredibly powerful but necessary because the Japanese side have a Banzai ability wherein they can all get together and coordinate a charge - and the charge gives them extra resistance to bullets. Using Garands to take down Banzai-ing Japanese is difficult because they can all eat multiple rounds before going down. The only real way to stop them is with the flamethrower. You're also only allowed a couple of flamethrowers on a single team.

In the Aliens arcade gane the flamethrower is the most powerful weapon in the game, at close range it can even hit low enemies without having to crouch. Resident Evil 5's flamethrower was fucking trash. It couldn't keep the damage high enough to expose a boss's weak spot for more than half a second, if you were lucky. Just said fuck it and dropped $10,000 on a RPG to finish the fight instantly.

at this point I'd say KF1 has a better flame thrower, it's actually affected by gravity so if you wantto hit someone far away you need to compensate
the KF2 flamethrower doesn't do that, plus tripwire nerfed firebug so it's not good at killing shit unless you waste a ton of ammo
