Should I /v/? I have windows 7 and love it, but I'm about to upgrade my cpu and video card for the newer games coming out and thought a new OS would be ok.

I hated Windows 8, do the games run better on Win 10? I have no clue

No.
FUCK NO.

And no, they don't. In fact, they tend to run WORSE, some not at all.
>>
W10 is all around shit, and a botnet on top.
Avoid it at all costs, remove the 8GB worth of files that are already installed on your computer, look up the CMD that removes all W10 and telemetry-related updates, disable automatic updates for good, and enjoy your superior operating system all the way to mid 2020s.

After that, start dual-booting a Linux distro of some sort, and run games using Vulkan.

That's what I'm doing.

you been living under a rock?
Even the mass media's been reporting almost weekly how W10 auto-installed on someone's PC without their permission, and literally broke something. The worst examples have been the system auto-updating to beta GPU drivers, causing the card to overclock way past its safe limits, and frying the entire thing.

Not even niggers want to use W10.

Games don't run better. There are stability improvements in some aspects like SLI, several people reported lack of microstutter present on 7 on 10. But system itself is more stable and has a lot of improvements under the hood.
If you "love" 7, stick with it. It's good enough. Sooner or later you'll have to install 10 though.

If you have a genuine Windows licence you won't get the insider edition that is full of telemetry. This telemetry is the cost of the licence.
If you've got a legit licence you will get a less pushy build. You can essentially turn everything off and have a safe OS.
All of this scare mongering is bullshit created by Linux users.

It's very simple.
You care a lot about your data. I understand that.
However, you avoid Windows 10 (which might compromise your data) but continue using all other types of bullshit like your smartphone (which definitely will compromise your data).
I don't understand that.
>>
>>344286550
>You can essentially turn everything off and have a safe OS.
No you can't. It was proven by numerous people in numerous threads and even articles that even if you disable everything there will always be quite a lot of hardcoded and nearly impossible to disable telemetry and snooping on W10.
>>
>>344280771
I upgraded on launch and saw no positives or negatives honestly. it was just a straight change I barely noticed anything.

>>
>>344286780
wzor
>>
>>344286835
Ah, so I am not talking to an idiot. Great.

I personally see W10 as an unnecessary addition to the privacy risks.
I do use a smartphone, but I took all sorts of different measures to make it as little a privacy risk as possible. It's fingerprint secured so nobody can peek into it without me having it unlocked and in a hand. One text wipes it completely and it can't be stopped since the battery is not easily removable. I disabled app permissions that aren't necessary. I am planning on rooting it so I can implement the customized host file. I use mobile data for internet and never connect to the public wifi unless urgently necessary.

I can't do as much to W10. Maybe once it's possible to get rid of all the telemetry bullshit I might consider upgrading. Until then it's a no-go on any of my computers, or any computer that belongs to my family.

Of the 20-some odd co-workers who have upgraded to Windows 10, 4 of them are happy with the upgrade. The rest found that their computers, which were within 5 years old in all but 3 instances, were destroyed by the upgrade & downgrading options wouldn't work. Microsoft gave-up on helping them, and computer repair stores have told them to just give it up they're dead, Jim.

So you have a less than 20% satisfaction rate out of a random polling of average-to-advanced PC users (two of the destroyed PC's belonged to two guys in I.T.). Take that as you will, OP.

You aren't 'safe' using anything unless it's an old ass trackpad that has open hardware (only like two exist that the free software org approve of as being truly 'free') and a gutted copy of linux with some other security software that would make the fbi blush. We've had a lot more time to figure out how win7 ticks and we know what most things do, don't pretend like it's this indecipherable black box no one has looked into. Win7 does (did) much less information gathering then Win10 does and that's a fact.

Pretty much the best option. I've resorted to googling every update available to make sure its not more W10 bullshit trying to install

Only if you download the "W10" update and allow telemetry to run in your OS.

So you have to deactivate the updates :^)

There are ways to mostly unfuck it and it does run a lot faster and smoother than 7, but if you can, avoid it.

I don't even use 10, but it's not because of telemetry. But "hurr you can't use because of telemetry" is retarded since there are ways to disable it, just like with 7.

You can use the Aegis Script on Win7 to disable telemetry and the specific updates that spy

Let's put this question in another way. Is W10 worth it over W7, if I disable all the telemetry?

What exactly are the Pros/Cons. I mean even the metro shit can be solved by installing Classic Shell right?
>>
I'm scared because eventually 7 will go the way of XP in that developers drop support for it and to play newer games I will HAVE to intall Spydows 10.

It will take a good number of years before that happens, but it's not as if I can look forward to upgrading to a new OS. I will be forced to either give up on having new additions to my favourite hobby, or bite the bullet and have a spyware OS.

except it's been several times proven that most of the claimed "settings" for it actually do jack shit, and only exist to falsely reassure the users of being "safe" from MS prying eyes.

Only way to 100% stop W10 leaking shit in and out is to either remain offline (and watch it start bitching about that few weeks later), or block all MS-related traffic via your network hardware.

>>344303125
>Let's put this question in another way. Is W10 worth it over W7, if I disable all the telemetry?
Like I tried to imply just now, you CANNOT disable it altogether. It's a central part of the whole thing, because Windows is no longer a "software". It's a literal, blatant service, to which you "subscribe" to. YOU will be the "product" here, which is why it's "FREE".
>>
>>344303993
I'm not saying disable it in the settings you ding dong, there are tools and bat files that do it.
>>
>>344298812
Hello?
>>
>>344304290
I've yet to find one that actually has been proven to do more than automatically set all the basic settings down to "off" or "basic".

All it takes is one new update from MS to "patch" these "vulnerabilities", and you're back in the leash once again.
>>
>>344303125
>Is W10 worth it over W7
No. There is a performance boost, but until games start being DX12 exclusive (and by then we hope they will be using another API anyway) there is no point. It's a pain in the arse having to unfuck it as much as possible, then you have to go back and check all your setting every time you update. The updates are all forced. You some of the more esoteric functions. And after all that, it still spies on you. It's not worth the hassle. If you can just stick with 7.
>>
>>344304696
Again I don't use 10, but as far as I heard http://dws.wzor.net/ works just fine. For 7 at least it works pretty well.
>>
>>344304702
>There is a performance boost

Updating right now and hope it'll be good for the long run. Seeing how forced all this is, I think its inevitable to join the botnet.
>>
>>344304702
>There is a performance boost,
It's just hilarious that people still bring this up as it'd be a huge game changer, while all the actual benchmarks done by various sites show a whooping 1 frame/sec increase, tops, in most games. Certain games don't get even that, may actually run worse than on W7, and some games and programs simply do not run at all on W10 at thise point.

>>344305624
>I think its inevitable to join the botnet.
Spoken like a true sheep.
W7 stays on my machine, and when it's time's up, it's Linux time. Thanks to based Gaben focusing his efforts on Steam OS, and tons of big corporations and numerous smaller game devs supporting the Vulkan's development, there's really no reason to jump on Wontwork 10.
>>
>>344305952

Linux will never take off. I dont believe it for a fucking second. Until Linux gets full game support and isnt for hardcore fuckwads only, I will dance to Bill's flute.

literal placebo effect.
ANY freshly installed OS starts up quicker than ones that have sat on a hard drive for years. Also, W10 cheats by replacing its shut-down procedure with this Log Off + hibernate feature.

If boot times are really that important to you, just get an SSD.

>>344306370
I already has. Also what is a "full game support"? You can already play anything with DX9 mode on Linux, and DX11 support is being implemented as we speak to Wine. Not to mention the whole OpenGL + Vulkan options being available now.
>>
>>344308120

This already tells the amount of tampering you have to do with Linux

windows 10 is a more modern version of windows 7. windows 8 is shit. windows 10 is much better. much betetr than win 7 even.
