Honestly I wouldn't say 4 is good at all. It's barely a castlevania game in how it's designed, it was clearly made for people who prefer more traditional platformers compared to castlevania style, and it is also really easy, and difficulty is one of the appeals of the series for a lot of people.

It has 1 "cheap" moment you can completely bypass. People often complain about the autoscroller level with the knights appearing out of thin air but it's easy to notice and very easy to avoid after you notice it unless you get impatient. 1 would have great levels but the final one brings it down a lot, it's just a really shitty lazy level. 3 on the other hand stays consistent and also has some moments of brilliance like the clocktower which are way more impressive than anything found in 1. The only thing 1 has over it is the short length which makes it more fun to replay desu

Don't get me wrong I still think 3 is easily one of the best platformers there are, but I think it isn't as good as 1 for those kinds of moments, even though it has far more content/better music quality etc.

Castlevania 1 is really good, 2 is weird and basically unplayable without a guide or a lot of patience but not without charm, 3 is a better 1 but ridiculously difficult in parts to the point where it's not really fun
I didn't like Super Castlevania and Bloodlines, but all of the GBA ones are good with Aria of Sorrow being the best of those
