Only thing limiting is the fact that game design for VR is completely different. Most of the rules created and honed during last 30 years of game design don't apply to VR. It'll take some time before people figure out how to make games bigger than small showcases and then another 3-4 years to develop proper games that utilize the technology properly.

That's why the UI of both the Steam VR and Oculus Home uses simple panels laid out in front of you. Virtual reality is fun, but it gets old quick. The content just isn't there, the resolution is too low. I believe that eventually virtual reality/augumented reality will be something amazing, but the technology isn't there yet. I'd give it 3-5 years.
