I remember being young when the mario party 6 demo came out, being really excited to play the minigames, but god damn did the walmart kiosk hurt my neck.
Man, in retrospect, everything about the N64's design just screams 'kiddy console'. You could not design a more kiddy looking thing if you tried, it's like they went out of their way to make as child friendly as possible. Nintendo probably was trying too hard to create a console that looked "cool" and just failed.

I don't know what you're on about, the system itself didn't look "kiddy" at all, it was just black and rounded. The controller had multi colored buttons I guess but nothing else about it seemed "kiddy."
The one in the OP's pic is purple which does look a little kiddy, but even that is not as kiddy looking as the GameCube's purple lunchbox design.
