when I first got the game, and completed it a few times I just used to restart the first chapter and mess around with it.
it is a fun little area to use stealth or use all the equipment to mess around in.
Still MGS has consecutively gone down hill since 2, 4 has the best stealth, V best gameplay, 2 best over all.

Whether Snake did shoot in the actual story or not really dosent matter, the big idea is to end the game with him shooting himself. That cutscene is supposed to give you that impression on the first watch. You only realize thats not the case later on.
